King Leopold's Ghost. Just started it, but it should be an interesting look at what was basically the first genocide of the 20th century.

Do you have any favorite historians? John Keegan is a favorite of mine.

Re: CS Political/History Book Club: Feb 2012
World War 1 by John Keegan. John does a great job examining the entire war and goes into detail on major offensives. I have about 50 pages left, so It should be done in a few nights.
The Face of Battle by John Keegan. It is a
reassessment of three battles representative of three different time periods...arrow cloud of Agincourt, the musket balls at Waterloo, or the steel rain of the Somme.
The End by Ian Kershaw. Ian is another of my favorite authors. This chronicles the Reich after the July 20 assassination attempt and really digs deep into the pysche of the average German in an attempt to understand why Nazis, when faced with destruction, ramped up their wholesale slaughter and how the Germans allowed it. It is quite remarkable to learn that Germans actually protested against many Nazi laws and held large demostrations which forced the repeal of the laws. However, no such protest or rallys were staged when Jews were discriminated, round up and murdered in the streets. The anti-Semitism of Europe is astounding.
Anyway, these are the 3 that I am currently working on. I have a huge stack by my bed that range from King Ludwig II of Bavaria, The Terror, various studies of the battles of The Marne, Somme and Verdun, African-Americans in the Revolutionary War, etc...
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17

I have read Keegan WWI and WWII. Both are great Books. Keegan is a Excellent read. I am now reading Harry Turtledove. Although is not real history, it makes you think what could have happened if the South Won the Civil War.

No Easy Day: The Autobiography of a Navy SEAL.
Because of all the press this book was getting, I didn't think I was going to be able to get a copy. But, I bought one at Barbara's Bookstore in Chicago's O'Hare Airport, on my way to the Griz vs App State game.
If you like this kinda' stuff, it's a terrific read!

Re: CS Political/History Book Club: Feb 2012
Finished this one a week ago:
Synopsis: Some pussy wrestler from Rhode Island gets into West Point. Goes through boot camp, becomes a Ranger (barely). Gets an Oxford scholarship, goes there, forgets the rigors of West Point, drinks, rows, meets and fucks an Indian chick who becomes his wife. The Twin Towers attack happens, he stays to finish Oxford with a History degree, goes to Afghanistan, leads a company, gets in a firefight, loses a guy, broods about it forever, becomes some fat ass general's aide, leaves the service, becomes a History professor at the Naval Academy, his father leaves the family, he hates him, never sees him again, blah, blah, blah, blah. Worst $15.00 I ever spent on a book.
Good masturbation stuff for Citadel and VMI grads who couldn't get into West Point, that's all.
********
Started reading this one immediately. Got it from D1B's girlfriend:
Good read about modern-day slavery across the globe and how multi-national corporations (many American) rely on slave labor for their products. Shoes and shirts made for dirt in Guatemala and Indonesia that sell to poor black kids in Detroit for $230. Touches on the wide spectrum of slavery all over, including the kidnapping of little girls in Brazil who are recruited to be maids at hotels and shit, but who actually are forced into prositituion at work camps for fuckers digging for gold and nickel and copper and diamonds. One correspondent talks about how, almost daily, she saw the headless corpses of 11 yr old girls floating by in the Amazon, victims of drunk miners who behead them after they gang rape them.
Conk masturbation material. Must-read for Col Hogan and Z and native.

Have you seen the D'Souza vs Hitchens debates? Pretty darn good if you want to see two pros go at it. Am not going to say one was the victor, but still great to listen to.

Re: CS Political/History Book Club: Feb 2012
Just finished Grand Pursuit: The Story of Economic Genius by Sylvia Nasar (author of A Beautiful Mind)

http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Pursuit-Sto ... 0684872986" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The book was a little bit of a dry read but still fascinating. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in an overview and understanding of the development of modern economics.“Nasar brilliantly brings to life game-changing economists from Marx to Hayek and from Sidney Webb to Milton Friedman, tracing the evolution of modern economic thinking through the richly detailed stories of the men and woman who reshaped how we think of life’s possibilities. . . . This is an utterly fascinating book on many levels.” -Mickey Edwards, The Boston Globe
