Really Ga State?

How does an athletic department convince students at a commuter school to come watch an 0-5 team play New Hampshire? Straight cash, homey. Georgia State students will be brought on to the field, where $10,000 in cash will be dropped from the rafters. I was curious as to whether Georgia State basketball post players, who would have an obvious cash-grabbing advantage because of their height, wingspan and leaping ability, could participate given the NCAA's rules against extra benefits. So I asked John Infante, a former athletic department compliance officer and the author of the essential Bylaw Blog, for an interpretation. Infante wrote that since the cash drop is open to any student, then it would not qualify as an extra benefit for a Georgia State athlete. To all those grabbing for the cash

Just hope all the KFC managers in the greater Atlanta area are prepared to get swamped tomorrow.

What a pathetic f***ing program. The sad thing is this could get them more media attention than any FCS team will probably get this year.

The top FCS programs have tickets that sell on the aftermarket for 3 digits. ODU has never not (I know double negative) sold out Foreman Field, and has a season tix waiting list of 9500 tickets. Stub Hub does not lie, and demand far exceeds supply.

GaState, prior to its Sun Belch moveup, provides free tix and now cash for its students to care.

Pretty f'n embarrassing.

Particularly against a talented and entertaining squad like UNH.

Panthers will make great homecoming fodder for SBC teams for years to come.

THe real GSU resides in Statesboro, and I wish them to be conference mates one day.

Why does this make me think of the Thanksgiving episode on WKRP in Cincinnati? Instead of turkeys, they are dropping cash.

It would be interesting to know if that took place before the game, at halftime, or after the game. Based on that pic alone, I'd be more inclined to place their attendance at about 500 or less. And I didn't leave a zero off that. I mean five hundred.

In any event, I think we all agree that the Hail Mary is incomplete, and GA St has no business even TALKING to the NCAA about moving up....

That was halftime and apparently all the students left when it was done.

I don't always agree with Trip, but in THIS case: :notworthy:

I don't agree with Pwns' language, but I certainly agree with his sentiment: if you have to resort to THIS, you are truly and completely PATHETIC, and ought to drop to NAIA or even drop football altogether. Heck, I'd expect GASt to get their rears handed to them by Grand Valley State, Mount Union, and Carroll on a regular freaking basis....
