No. Too much money for an average mlb player. I mean, good for him that he got the money, but I can't fault RAJ for not matching that ludicrous deal.

Dude, you live in bumblefack so we'll give you a pass but you have no clue on Philly fans & their contempt for Werth. Next thing you'll say is the Sixers should honor Iguodala when he returns on opening night...

You don't miss him? You don't think he would have helped this year? Wouldn't you like to know that you would have him next year?

It's the Phillie fans that have contempt for Werth that have no clue. Werth doesn't owe us (Phillie fans) anything. He was a big part of the best era in Phillies history and he helped the team win a WS. He earned the right to be a free agent and the Phils weren't going to pay him what the Nationals offered. He did what any smart person would do, he took the money.

Iguodala is a nitwit. He deserves to be booed when he comes back.

How's that working out for you? Good thing they rested Strasburg, he'll be ready for next year. Hopefully he booked tee times for the whole team larer today.

I would like to have him, but not at 21 mil per year. :ohno:

I agree. But the 21 mil isn't his fault. Blame the Nats for over paying.

I wanted them to win, but it serves them right for sitting Strasburg. Baseball can be fickle, the Nats could have a down year next year and not make the playoffs. Or, Strasburg could get hurt next year. Opportunity doesn't always knock, it knocked this year for the Nats and they answered by sitting a perfectly healthy player. :dunce:

They are having trouble as the Phillies players reserved all the tee times quite a while ago.

That's not it. The real reason is the Nationals won't let Strasburg play golf, or even use a phone, since he might get hurt. Strasburg is German for "delicate little flower".

 The loss last night was devastating. Can't believe they won't be playing tomorrow. I have no problem with them shutting him down as they said they would back in February.

The ONLY thing I can think of that they could have done differently is hold him out for April and part of May in the hopes that he could go to the end. But then if they didn't make the playoffs, you'd have the same complaints by the armchair QB's who like to play what ifs. :coffee:

What they could have done was limit his starts to 5 or 6 innings back in July. That way he would have been available for the post season. Shutting him down was stupid.

FWIW, I can't recall a game all season he went past 6 innings. His average for the year was 5.6 IP.

You're right, he only went past 6 innings a few times. In any case, they should have done a better job of rationing his innings so that he would be available for the post season. Have him skip a couple of starts if need be.

I don't miss him. He took too many games off (while still playing the game). Getting picked off of second base on an intentional walk was just one glaring example. And he needs protection in the lineup to be anything close to effective. When Howard and Utley faded, Werth was exposed. Plus he was a right handed bat that couldn't hit left handed pitching, especially for power. If his salary was reasonable, I'd take him as he's better than what we have, but overpaying him for what you'd get out of him just wouldn't be worth it compared to what that money could bring in. He'll always be the guy who started in RF for the Phils '08 WS team, and that's a great memory, but let's not confuse a great memory with what he's really worth salary-wise. He'd be a reach at half of what the Nats paid for him.

He's better than anything the Phillies have right now. I agree, he's not worth what the Nats are paying him. But that wasn't the question. The question was "Do you miss him?", and the anwer is yes.

No, I don't miss him for the reasons I said. You asked the question, and I answered it. I can't expect an unlimited payroll and that has to be taken into account. And frankly, the guy just took off too many games. He went from being a likeable player, with a manageable salary, to a petulant player with a salary demand the Phils couldn't meet. And he wasn't producing, especially against left handed pitchers. So do, I don't miss him.
