Idaho State/Kramer
I guess this isn't what they mean when they say a coach pushes his team:

I suppose the Northern Colorado defense better be careful to not tackle this guy this weekend if he plays.

By "this guy" I'm pretty sure he's referring to Graves, not Kramer.

Re: Idaho State/Kramer
Two absolutely shocking things here:
1. That Kramer would act like a moron.
2. That a player on a Kramer-coached team would act like a moron.

Re: Idaho State/Kramer
The player that Kramer pushed? Yeah, I don't know him.Benne wrote:So now to Cat fans he's "this guy." That's funny
I like Kramer. He was the right guy for our program at the time. But with all that was happening at the time, I basically agree with MSU firing him, although they could have handled it better. Either way, that's ancient history (kinda like the Griz dominance of the Cats ). I think Kramer can probably improve things at ISU but it will take a long time - they are way behind where MSU was when he came here. It seems he's learned from his experience and is taking the APR stuff seriously.
I'm not surprised Kramer pushed the guy. He's an emotional coach - IMO that's why the Cats could be so inconsistent when he was our coach - beating Colorado one week then losing to Chadron the next for instance.[insert obligatory "but Danny Woodhead is a great player and Chadron was tougher than a lot of lower tier FCS teams" comment]
This day and age, you can't shove players, even if it was far less than a hit may have been in practice. But I think this reaction to it is ridicuous. I assume Graves was planning on quitting the team - I can't imagine staying after this.
Re: Idaho State/Kramer
Yeah, so a player outfitted in full gear gets pushed over and sustains injuries preveting him from playing. Whatta joke. If anyone wants to know why Idaho State is and has been terrible for a long time, look at the softness of the players. This is a culture of losing that isn't going away easily.

Unfortunately, it looks like one of the things Kramer hasn't learned is to control his emotions a little better.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Two absolutely shocking things here:

Wonder if ISU will suspend Kramer for Saturdays game?
Re: Idaho State/Kramer
God, I had to watch this again just to see if my first instinct was still correct... but holy crap, what a pussy this kid must be. You get an angry coach to give you a little shove and you contact a lawyer? And the police? It would be comical if it wasn't such a tragic statement about the state of affairs in Pocatello.

ESPN's OTL just did about a 20 minute piece on this non-story, including playing the 5 second video clip about 50 times. I don't think there's any way Kramer survives this now...it's gone viral.

20 or 30 years ago this was a non-story, but in today's world of anti-bullying this stuff isn't tolerated. I would not be surprised at all if Kramer is shown the door over this.AZGrizFan wrote:ESPN's OTL just did about a 20 minute piece on this non-story, including playing the 5 second video clip about 50 times. No way he hangs onto his job with all this press. Just when ISU thinks they are finally on the right track, this happens.

With all this supposedly happening on 10-3 and then we played them on 10-6, the picture is becoming clear, as far as why no one was holding anyone accountable on that team. Most teams would have got after the receivers, but with all this, I can see why they were going through the motions. Very unfortunate.

Really? There's no way ISU can afford to fire him now, especially with 2 years on his contract.SDHornet wrote:No way he hangs onto his job with all this press. Just when ISU thinks they are finally on the right track, this happens.
I'd also be surprised if this lawsuit went anywhere significant. Yeah, Kramer's an idiot, but who the hell sues the coach after getting shoved down while wearing pads?

Re: Idaho State/Kramer
On the other hand can they afford the black eye of hanging onto a coach who could be perceived to "abuse" his players? Think opposing head coaches aren't going to use this on the recruiting trail? ISU is pinned into a lose-lose situation.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Really? Re: Idaho State/Kramer
I think Kramer will get a game or two suspension - something so the school can say they responded - but not fired. I imagine they're telling him they can't tolerate this kind of publicity and he needs to not do something dumb like this again. But I think they're happy with him, his contract isn't up, and I think ISU has a hard time hiring anybody to replace him.
At least I hope that's roughly how it goes. I hope the player doesn't get any settlement or anything.

Re: Idaho State/Kramer
Idaho State knew what they were getting in Kramer...a coach with experience in turning around bad programs, but may have some character issues. They had to expect some of these instances. I heard it said when they hired Kramer, that if Kramer can't turn the football program, there probably isn't anyone who can.SDHornet wrote:On the other hand can they afford the black eye of hanging onto a coach who could be perceived to "abuse" his players? Really? Nobody? Come now. There's always somebody with an ego ready to make the jump... before Zamberlin was hired Anderson (now at Utah State) threw his hat into the ring but they couldn't get the money right. ISU will survive, pull off the band aid and move on.JALMOND wrote:Idaho State knew what they were getting in Kramer...a coach with experience in turning around bad programs, but may have some character issues. You are correct, there is always someone who will want to try, but Kramer's record at both EWU and MSU speaks for itself (positively, of course).

next thing you know, "players" will be suing coaches for "verbal abuse" because they shouted at them.

What if this story was the opposite? Player runs down a coach? Should it be looked at differnetly? I dont think so. I dont care if the kid had pads on either. Unnacceptable.

It is just football culture but really it is not needed. Imagine it in an office environment. You'd kick your boss' ass.JayJ79 wrote:next thing you know, "players" will be suing coaches for "verbal abuse" because they shouted at them.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

No word on the situation from ISU? I know they may not be able to say much right now, but I would have expected some sort of generic response.

The pussification of America continues.
I hope Kramer comes to Missoula to be the new coach.
