Youngstown State (4-1) @ Southern Illinois (5-0)

This is a big game between two heavyweights. The Youngstown State Penguins come into this game with a 4 game winning streak built on a balanced offense and stout defense. The Penguins hold opponents to 3.1 ypc and have forced 11 turnovers on D. Southern Illinois has one of the most high-powered offenses in all of the FCS. The Salukis are undefeated and are playing at home. The key match-up will be the Salukis running game (247 ypg, 5.1 ypc) matches up against that Penguin defense. The Salukis are a team that likes to jump on their opponents early and is one of those few teams that know how to finish in the 4th quarter. In a game that features a great offense verses a great defense, you always have to side with the defense. Prediction: Youngstown State 28 – Southern Illinois 17.
Forcing 11 turnovers in five games ain't bad, but the Salukis have forced 16. He needs to be a little more thorough in his research. Stopping the Saluki run game alone won't stop them as they are also averaging 235.6 yards passing. This is probably the most balanced offense the Salukis have had since Coach Kill came to town. The Penguin D will have their work cut out for them.

The Eastern Wash. over Montana prediction wouldn't surprise me. EWU is much improved from last year and always play the Griz tough in Wa/griz stadium- they're not the least bit intimidated. The griz were lucky to pull out a win against Weber St. last weekend. It's the last of a five game home opener for the Griz- four of the next six are on the road- could prove interesting.

Got to give them credit, they at least don't just go with the favorite all the time.
