Field Hockey

Post by SuperHornet »

In a battle of two of my favorite schools, Seed #4W UOP came up on the short end of a 2-1 OT score against #1E Liberty at the NorPac Conference Tournament at Longwood today. My Tigs drop to 5-13 (if there's such a thing as a "signature win" with a record like that, it would be either MI St or Cal), and the Flames improve to 15-5 (best win was 8-1 over App). UOP finishes in the losers bracket against the Manure Pile tomorrow. Liberty faces #3E Davidson tomorrow for the third time in the last 13 days (Liberty won a home-and-home pair). This was Liberty's program-record seventh win in a row. The conference champion will play the MAC champion in a NCAA Tournament play-in game on Tuesday. If a West Coast team wins the title, they will stay at Longwood for that game.

In other first round action:

Game 1: #3E Davidson d. #2W UCD 2-1
Game 2: #1E Liberty d. #4W UOP 2-1 (OT)
Game 3: #1W Stanford d. #4E Radford 2-0
Game 4: #3W Cal d. #2W Longwood 5-1

Friday Games:

Game 5: #2W UCD vs. #4W UOP (Consolation Game)
Game 6: #3E Davidson vs. #1E Liberty (Semifinals)
Game 7: #1W Stanford vs. #3W Cal
Game 8: #4E Radford vs. #2E Longwood

Saturday Games:

Game 9: Game 6 Loser vs. Game 7 Loser (Third Place)
Game 10: Game 6 Winner vs. Game 7 Winner (Championship)
The seeds (with records BEFORE the conference tournament):

#1E Liberty (14-5, 7-1 NorPac)
#2E Longwood (7-12, 6-2)
#3E Davidson (8-11, 5-3)
#4E Radford (2-16, 2-6)
#5E App St (3-15, 0-8) (Did not make the tournament.)

#1W Stanford (12-6, 6-0)
#2W UC Davis (7-11, 3-3)
#3W Cal (6-11, 2-4)
#4W UOP (5-12, 1-3)

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
