Oregon, Kansas State go down
So...looks like the SEC champ curb stomps ND and wins the NC.

The Notre Dame defense leads them to a National Championship.

ND all the way. It's about time for the Irish to be relevant again...
All the Ivy League needs to become relevant again is to diversify its OOC schedule.

On Oregon:
For want of a placekicker, a shot at a national title was lost. Also, on that long run by the Oregon QB in the first half an Oregon player was in position to easily block or at least impede the Stanford guy that ended up making the tackle. The fact that he didn't do anything was huge. He even gets in the guy's way and that's a touchdown for Oregon.
I didn't see the play live and just saw it once on replay. I'll have to see it again to see why the heck he didn't do anything. I can only guess he must not have seen him but if that's it it's really too bad for Oregon.
Not that Stanford didn't deserve to win. They played really well on defense.
Edit: Just replayed the play on ESPN3. It was D'Anthony Thomas and he looked right at the defender then inexplicably just accelerated as though HE had the ball and was trying to out run the guy to the end zone. That was a real brain fart. How could you NOT block the guy?

Not that Stanford didn't deserve to win. They played really well on defense.

On Kansas State:
Last week I said they are awfully consistent. But, unknown to me, Collin Klein appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Only reason I found out is I have a colleague who is a Kansas State alum and during an e mail exchange he told me. I wrote him back to ask him if he'd ever heard of the Sports Illustrated cover jinx. Sent him some on line articles on it.
Of course I know it's just superstition.
But my colleague's going to believe in it now.

Oregon looked like the Griz last night. TERRIBLE play calling. Chip opting for field goals? WTF?

I'm shocked but proud of the Irish. I hope my Gamecocks win next week so we finish ahead of Klempson.bonarae wrote:ND all the way. It's about time for the Irish to be relevant again...

Oregon just looked soft honestly. Stanford kept the Ducks in the game. The Black Mamba just wasn't thinking on Mariota's long run where he gets caught.
I still don't see how replay overturned that call in the EZ, dude never had control of the ball until he was out of bounds.
I hate the SEC...

I'm not a fan of the SEC, or any team in the SEC, but I respect them. The SEC is clearly the class of FBS right now. The only reason any non-SEC teams are relevant is because the SEC beats up on itself.SuperHornet wrote:bluehenbillk wrote:I hate the SEC...
An 8 team playoff could easily result in an all SEC final four. (Assuming that they didn't limit the number of teams one conference could send to the playoffs.)

Re: Oregon, Kansas State go down
I'd take the top Big Sky/MVC/CAA teams over the SEC any day of the week. The same goes for the B1G and the Pac-12. I might lose my $$ (SOME of the time), but I'd do it anyway. It's a philosophy thing. IMO, FCS football is IMMENSELY better....

That's just dumb. I'd rather watch FCS, but you're just giving your money away if your regularly picking FCS teams to beat SEC teams.SuperHornet wrote:I'd take the top Big Sky/MVC/CAA teams over the SEC any day of the week. That's what the media wants you to think. The fact is that a mid level Big 12 came in and beat the best team by far in the SEC at their crib.BlueHen86 wrote:I'm not a fan of the SEC, or any team in the SEC, but I respect them. Well, this loss sucked, but it was kind of inevitable.bluehenbillk wrote:Oregon just looked soft honestly. Stanford kept the Ducks in the game. The Black Mamba just wasn't thinking on Mariota's long run where he gets caught.

Oregon had lost practically it's entire starting defense to injuries. I don't know exactly, but I'm pretty sure they didn't score any points off of the fumbles or interception, or at least not NEARLY as much as they should have if they did.
Mariota finally played like a freshman, making bad throws in pressure situations.
Also you're right. Ertz never had possession until he was out of bounds.
They're only at #4, so it's not impossible that they can get back to the BCS title. Highly unlikely, though.

They're #5, behind three SEC teams. Not gonna happen.uofmman1122 wrote:Well, this loss sucked, but it was kind of inevitable.bluehenbillk wrote:Oregon just looked soft honestly. Stanford kept the Ducks in the game. The Black Mamba just wasn't thinking on Mariota's long run where he gets caught.

Gotta give credit to Stanford. Tough, physical, smart football team.
