Conference expansion ripple to FCS
Maryland and Rutgers are going to the B1G. Sources indicate that Boise State, San Diego State, and BYU will go back to the Mountain West, UConn to the ACC, and Louisville and Cincy to the Big XII. With these confirmed and possible moves, what will that mean for the FCS, if anything? Will the ripples cause any more teams to upgrade to the FBS? If Boise, SDSU, and BYU all stay in the MW, then it is likely that no Big Sky team will upgrade to the FBS, unless the WAC itself makes a comeback in football (which is rather unlikely). I don't see any other moves unless the Big East gets real desperate. Worst case only Temple and USF remain in the Big East, but teams like Houston, SMU, Navy, Memphis, and UCF still come over, but I don't see the Big East adding an FCS unless its Villanova or another CAA school. Not to mention will Illinois State try to make a move up during this current wave of shifting? There is so much to say, any thoughts?
Re: Conference expansion ripple to FCS
A couple of years ago, I would have said I'd love to see UD jump to the Big East. Now it would be pointless. Hell, we can't even compete in the CAA nowadays. I'd rather see us try to focus on becoming a decent FCS team.

This. I want at least one more chipper before we even consider it.93henfan wrote:A couple of years ago, I would have said I'd love to see UD jump to the Big East. Now it would be pointless. B1G is looking for 2 more teams with Georgia Tech, VA and UNC being mentioned the most. B1G wants to get to 16 ASAP. That would shrink the ACC and open the door to other schools.
Re: Conference expansion ripple to FCS
What all this really proves is that college basketball is nothing more than a blip on the radar of college athletics as a whole. All of these so-called basketball power conferences are falling apart at the seams. The Big East committed conference suicide by trying to make basketball their focal point.

On the CNNSI site, they mentioned Maryland will make $100,000 million more by 2020, in the B1G than if they would have stayed in the ACC.

It's easier to just say $100 billion. And wow, what a lucrative deal!Gil Dobie wrote:$100,000 million

Re: Conference expansion ripple to FCS
Mentioned this in another thread but it fits here as well:
SDSU announced that they are going to the Big East no matter what so that means only Boise State and BYU are looking at going back to the MWC. Now the MWC has said they want to stay at 10 teams but open to change so we could see San Jose State, Utah State, BYU and Boise all coming back making it a 13 team conference. That being said it may open the door for Idaho or New Mexico State to get in.
Now for the Big East, with two more schools leaving that means probably the Sunbelt or Conference USA will be raided for teams to fill it out. If this happens I could see NMSU or Idaho end up in either conference to flesh it out. For Example if both went to the MWC:
North/East:
-Boise State
-Idaho
-Air Force
-Utah State
-Wyoming
-Colorado State
-BYU
South/West:
-Nevada
-Fresno State
-San Jose State
-Hawaii
-New Mexico
-UNLV
-New Mexico State
I could also see the MWC stop at 12 teams though and leave the Vandals and NMSU Aggies out. Either way I dont think this will really effect the FCS field of football except if the WAC tries to revitalize or the MAC looks to add a 14th school to its roster (NDSU fans will love this idea).

I'm pretty sure Boise and SDSU both made "we are committed to the MWC" statements before joining the BE. They might still go, but they are not going to make anywhere near as much money there that they thought they were.SUUTbird wrote:Mentioned this in another thread but it fits here as well:

Re: Conference expansion ripple to FCS
IF Boise and BYU move back, I'd guarantee San Diego State goes back as well. At that point, there'd literally be no Big East Conference left. All you'd have is a bunch of sissy little basketball-only schools.SDHornet wrote:I'm pretty sure Boise and SDSU both made "we are committed to the MWC" statements before joining the BE. SDSU isn't the one deciding if SDSU is going to the BE. BSU either being happy or not happy w/ the BE contract will decide. If BSU backs out of the BE SDSU will be right behind w/ its nose stuck to BSU's ass.

Re: Conference expansion ripple to FCS
I hope they come back, if they don't there's a damn good chance Fresno St. will be in the BE/BW in fact it sounds like there's no way AFA will consider it and BSU/SDSU are demanding another western member, BE said they want a western member, the BE bballs don't want anymore full members. Plus there was a quote today about getting one of SDSU's traditional rivals(Um probably us) Here we are w/ BW already saying they'd let us rejoin them for other sports. Oh joy I get to be in CUSA errr BE.

And most of the MVFC football members basketball programs would wipe the floor with both of those schools - UNI, SIU, MSU, ISUR, ISUB...Seahawks08 wrote:Haha coming from an EWU fan. My point exactly, who cares? The Big East built their conference around basketball. See how that's working out for them? Basketball is a complete afterthought in the minds of ADs everywhere. Decisions are made in regards to football.

There's more to this world than football. That's the problem with the NCAA and our society in general. Football has become a religion.

A religion, really? That's an extreme generalization. kemajic is correct, it's not a football alter the AD's are kneeling at, it's a $$$$$ alter.Seahawks08 wrote:There's more to this world than football. That's the problem with the NCAA and our society in general. Football has become a religion.

I used to think "football as a religion" was a generalization until my brother in law told me what high school football in Texas was like. $60 million dollar stadiums...insane.ASUMountaineer wrote: A religion, really? Football is on a different level some places.
Re: Conference expansion ripple to FCS
Allen HS built a $60m facility, but the vast majority of Texas HS stadiums are dumps with erector-set style seating. Granted, they pack a lot of people into those stadiums, but they aren't very nice.mtjack wrote:I used to think "football as a religion" was a generalization until my brother in law told me what high school football in Texas was like. $60 million dollar stadiums...insane.ASUMountaineer wrote: A religion, really? Didn't that same UNI team also make the NCAA tournament, knock of #1 Kansas and make the S16?
Yep, it did.

Where I have a place in SE TX, the school 10 miles south of me (Lumberton - 4A in FB) has a very nice FB stadium that holds 10K. It is nicer that most college stadiums here in MN.
