And that is game. Fumble by SB and MSU should be in victory formation.

So MSU will get a chance at revenge from last year against SHSU.

If it's colder than 50 degrees, I think they'll win.

SHSU can't play in the cold at all, and looked unimpressive against Cal Poly.

MSU should dispatch SHSU. Their D looked impressive today.

Both SHSU and Cal Poly played great defense. Using your argument, MSU didn't look very good tonight. Bottom line is both SHSU and MSU find ways to win FB games. Should be a great game.
Unless it's cold. If it is, you can simply pencil in MSU to the semis. :coffee:

In my opinion, SHSU is just like App State when they changed offensive schemes. It took teams a while to figure out App, but it happened. SHSU won't be a surprise this year, but MSU will still need to perform and stop their game.

Why is it so obvious that SHSU can't play in the cold? the last time it was so-called cold I guess was in last years Championship game. They played a great NDSU team very close all game long. Cold wasn't the problem for them, it was NDSU's great defense.
SHSU has NOT played in cold weather, and they might not have to this upcoming weekend. It as 48 at kickoff.

Most people are talking if it was 10 or below, then that would make difference.

The Southland is 0-13 playing in Montana in the winter.
Those are all different Montana teams, and all different (and very good) Southland teams.

SHSU is very good, and I think would win on a neutral site.

But I can bet 99% of their players have never even experienced 10 degree weather, let alone played a football game in it.

I really don't care who wins this game. I'm a Griz fan, so I hate the cats, but I'm just calling it like I see it based on history.

So, once again, if I'm a SHSU fan, I'm praying for warm weather.

Unfortunately, the forecast for Friday and Sat looks like about a high of 35. Might be closer to 20 or lower if it's a night game.

Exactly. Until we know it is actually 10 degrees on game day, nothing else matters.

I do not think Montana State looked good today. Quarterback didn't look good at all. Receivers dropped passes. Etc.

Also, one thing I saw today is that while it may be cold in Bozeman playing at Montana State is not like playing at Washington - Grizzly Stadium where all those Southland teams got whacked. Not nearly as tough a place to play. Not nearly as intimidating, loud, crowded, etc.

If Sam Houston State was going to play at Missoula against a vintage Montana team next weekend I'd pretty much be assuming it'd be the end of the line for them. But that's not what they're doing. I'm not saying Montana State has no chance. Don't even know if I'd say Sam Houston State is favored because maybe Montana State normally looks better than it did today. But it ain't the same thing as what Southland teams USUALLY have to face when they go up to that State during the playoffs.

BTW the current weather.com forecast for next Saturday in Bozeman is cold but not THAT cold. Low of 23 F and high of 39 F. Wind WSW 10 mph. Not a really harsh day for up there at this time of year by my reckoning.

Okay I just saw the edit by someone else doing a weather forecast and noting that it's Friday night. They play at night I'm guessing it'll be in the 20s.

But that's still not Washington - Grizzly stadium.

Is there some difference playing games under wind-chill conditions at WA-Griz as opposed to Bozo? Or is the difference just in what the fans do to the players?

I've never been to either place, so I'd like to know. I'll make sure I have a decent parka before I come up, though. ;-)

Maybe not, but the Cats have lost just 3 times in the last 3 years in Bozeman, 18 wins.

Weather was awesome in Bozeman yesterday, looks like a good turnout headed into the game, traffic snarled up so the cops could run down a road rage shooter, but other than that, looked like perfect football weather for last night's game, wished I would have had time to stop and watch, but I forgot my piece.

For the record, SHSU won a very cold game in Cheney in 2004. :ohno:

But yes, playing in cold, at altitude, with a packed stadium is a huge disadvantage for SHSU. They didn't dominate Poly like many were thinking yesterday, and the Southland did not have a very good OOC showing this year so I'm still thinking they might be paper bearcats.

MSU - 7.

I don't think there's a lot of information on the Southland vs. other FCS leagues. They were 5-4 overall. I think UCA was competitive with Georgia Southern yesterday and had a chance to win.

With respect to the Big Sky there were three games. Stephen F. Austin played what I understand was a very competitive game in losing at Montana State, McNeese dominated Weber State to an extent as great as any Big Sky team dominated the Wildcats until clearing the bench late, and Sam Houston State won a very competitive game at home against Cal Poly. Not really seeing an indication of dramatic superiority on the part of the Big Sky vs. the Southland in those three games.

Having said that I do think it is an advantage to Montana State playing at home. It's just that I was struck by how dead the atmosphere at Bozeman came across on the webcast I was watching yesterday and how little energy there seemed to be. Big contrast to when, for instance, I watched some of the North Dakota State game and you could feel the electricity of the crowd jumping out of the monitor. And that's what it's been like when Southland teams have gone to Washington - Grizzly. Very loud, Can't hear themselves call signals on offense. Lots of home field energy causing, I think, adrenaline spikes in the Montana players. It's just not going to be that kind of hell on earth for Sam Houston State Friday night; not unless it's a lot different then than it was yesterday. And I don't think it can be like Washington-Griz. The size and configuration of the stadium don't allow for that. At least I don't think so.

There was nothing dead about the atmosphere last night. Did anyone who went to the game think it was dead?

I was at the game, so I guess I can speak for the energy. it was loud and there was amazing energy. sorry it didn't come across on your computer. Stony Brook played very well, and the Cats offense did not play as well as it should have, but to say our QB didn't play well is just stupid. Our D played great, and our team, and fans have another game to think about. I hear that next weeks game is on ESPN2, hope it looks louder and better to all of you...

FYI, as the stony brook bus left last night, the SB players (4 of them) flipped off our tailgate area. I now have zero respect for them...

Couldn't go but every report from fans, reporters, players, etc. said the opposite of what Mr. Onge thinks.

One example from Jason McEndoo O-line coach for the Bobcats.
WOW! I've been at MSU for a decade, and that was the loudest crowd I've ever heard...
