Back to the topic at hand.
Moore is a class act and will be missed at App State.

More detail....seems Cobb wanted him out. What an asshole.

Wow. That's quite a different story than what came out yesterday:ASUG8 wrote:More detail....seems Cobb wanted him out. What an asshole.

Cobb said he met with Moore on Sunday morning and that Moore told him he would like to coach one more season. But Cobb said the decision that 2012 would be Moore’s final season at ASU had already been made after last season.
“We basically came to what I consider to be an agreement and thought was an agreement that this would be the swan song,” Cobb said.
Cobb said that part of the agreement was not to make the decision public that the 2012 season would be Moore’s last, so as not to create a distraction for the team.
“Candidly, it’s a difference of opinion on where the conversations were,” Cobb said. “And even some of the conversations we’ve had periodically since then. … At the end of the day, one person wants one thing, and one person wants another, and we’ll just have to agree to disagree.”
Cobb said he wouldn’t describe Moore’s departure as a case of him being fired.
“I really think a more accurate depiction … is the fact that we sat down and analyzed where we where and looking at a long-term vision of where we want the football program to go and felt like the proper thing to do for Coach was give him the ability to go out a champion, and that’s what he’s done.”
Asked why Moore will not return, Cobb said: “It’s just time.”

Re: Jerry Moore out as ASU coach, Satterfield interim coach
If it was 100% up to Cobb, Jerry would have been out last year, especially after the Chris Moore situation. He was offered a "promotion" to a fundraising position if he didn't make the changes Cobb wanted, mainly bringing back Satterfield.
It seems like Charlie thought they made a decision together that 2012 was his last year and Jerry didn't want to go. Very similar to the Bobby Bowden story.

So he DID get the Robinson treatment. That's sad. People like Cobb have no business in athletics administration.

What is the "Chris Moore situation"?
Re: Jerry Moore out as ASU coach, Satterfield interim coach
Jerry's son was an assistant coach during last year's debacle of "coaching by committee" and Cobb opted to get rid of Chris Moore since Jerry wouldn't fire his own son. Apparently Jerry had some grand plans for Chris and it led to a lot of issues within the coaching staff over time.Cap'n Cat wrote:What is the "Chris Moore situation"?
Sorry to link here, but it's a better synopsis of what happened without me speculating:

Not really the important part of this story, but why do you name an "interim coach" when the season has just completed? I've never heard of a program doing this. I can see interim if you still have games to play or if you are already in spring practice.

Yes, but do you think a kid is going to choose or not choose AppSt because Satterfield is the "interim coach"? Again, I've never heard of a program announcing an interim coach as this time of the off-season.Grizalltheway wrote:Are you familiar with the concept of recruiting?89Hen wrote:Not really the important part of this story, but why do you name an "interim coach" when the season has just completed? Re: Jerry Moore out as ASU coach, Satterfield interim coach
When Satterfield came back the general consensus was that he came in as head coach in waiting, but it seems that's not exactly the case right now. You're spot on with the recruiting issue with the head coach (and probably other coaching positions) in a state of flux, but we all knew Jerry was getting toward the end of his career and this would eventually happen.89Hen wrote:Yes, but do you think a kid is going to choose or not choose AppSt because Satterfield is the "interim coach"? How old was Charlie Weiss when he got the gig at Notre Dame???ASUG8 wrote:dal4018 wrote:Can't forget the big upset over Michigan as stated before it put App State on the map wonder why he didn't a chance at a 1-A job after that???
He was 68 when we got the UM win, so I don't know how many programs are interested in a relative short-timer.
If T-dog's info is correct, that's a pretty crappy way for Cobb to wrap up a career for someone of Jerry's caliber.

Cobb is getting a lot of flack for how this went down. The Cult of Moore is in full effect.
If Cobb left Moore to his own devises and didn't force the changes that happened last off-season (Satterfield, Chris Moore, McClain), we would have won maybe five games.

Kind of awkward to see crAppy step on their own dick in the mistreatment of the guy who brought them to the party.
