Not a fan, but I live in the Twin Cities. Great defensive center fielder, average arm, okay hitter that batted in the .280's last season after being over .300 most of the year. Has some speed on the bases.

Initially I don't like it, but the Twins blog I read does...

Terry Ryan and company deserve a lot of credit for this deal.

In what started out as a situation that I thought was more speculation than concrete, the Minnesota Twins have done what I considered unthinkable for them: they have traded Ben Revere in addition to Denard Span. Two very good center fielders, two very good defenders in terms of defensive range; neither will be a part of the future in Minnesota.

In return for Revere, who had some of the best defensive range in all of baseball and who will be arbitration-eligible for the first time in 2014, the Twins are getting 25-year old starting pitcher Vance Worley and 23-year old Trevor May, who Baseball America rated as the game's #69 prospect going into 2012.

Worley will step into the 2013 rotation, which as of today would have to be: Worley, Scott Diamond, Nick Blackburn, Cole De Vries and probably Samuel Deduno. Still not good, but Worley is a definitive upgrade for the rotation who won't be a free agent until after the 2017 season.

In Trevor May the Twins have a pitcher whose most recent season included 149.2 innings at Double-A where he struck out 151 batters. He projects as a solid number two starter, and should spend all of 2013 in Triple-A Rochester.

This is a fantastic haul for the Twins, taking in two young, talented, and cost-controlled pitchers in return for a talented, young, but limited outfielder. Minnesota now needs to figure out how they'll man center field next summer, since Aaron Hicks seems unlikely to be ready before 2014 at the earliest, but you never know. Right now, however, it looks like Darin Mastroianni will be your Opening Day center fielder.

Twins have now traded D-Span and Rev Run in less than a week...

Twins are desperate for pitching, and this trade makes sense. Benson may be playing centerfield, but not sure he is ready.

I like the trade from the Phils standpoint. Trevor May strikes a bunch of guys out, but he also puts a lot of guys on base - his WHIP last year (first year at Double A) was 1.45. I'm not sure he's a triple A pitcher this year after just so so numbers in Reading last year. Obviously he's young (23 this season) and has upside, but he's also more than a couple of years away at best. The Phils have done well in moving young pitchers with tons of upside who don't necessarily achieve that in the majors.

And Worley, eh, the Phils maybe should've traded him after the year before when his stock was sky-high. Obviously he still has a lot of value, but the arm injury last year and the big tick up in ERA, WHIP, and every other category of note and you wonder if he was a one-year wonder or not. We'll certainly find out as he'll slot right into the Twins starting rotation.

I like what I see from Revere - exceptional defensive outfielder and the Phils really needed defense in that spot. And Revere doesn't seem to be a strikeout machine which means he'll be a refreshing change for a Phillies lineup that does far too much of that.

Phils needed a leadoff hitter and a very good defensive CF and they got that here. Helps that he's not arbitration eligible until after next year as well, and not a free agent until 2018. A far better option, IMO, than Michael Bourne would've been.

Common fallacy in philly. The phils were 19th in the league in 2008 and 20th in 2009, but it has been going down ever since. Last year, the phils were 4th.
