Re: Phillies Offseason
Phils sign RP Mike Adams to 2 yrs/$12M with a third year option
and SP John Lannon to 1 yr/$5M
Everything is set except the corner OF.

Re: Phillies Offseason
I like the Adams pickup - certainly one of the best set-up guys in the business over the past 5 years and a perfect compliment to get to Pappelbon in the 9th - clearly the biggest issue the Phils had last year, outside of injuries to Howard and Utley, was the rotten performance by the bullpen, so this solves a very big problem. There's certainly the risk of injury in him, hence why he was still available, but it's a gamble that's worth taking.
Lannan is just an afterthought - he's the 5th pitcher in the rotation so it's not a huge concern. The Phils will win or lose based on 1) how effective Hamels, Halladay, and Lee are 2) if Utley and Howard can stay healthy and 3) if the bullpen can improve on last year's horrendous performance. Lannan doesn't figure into any of that.

Which will come first? Delmon Young's first HR in a Phillies uniform, or his first meltdown?

First HR. Delmon can carry a team for a month with his bat, but he will lose games with his defense.Ivytalk wrote:Which will come first? Delmon Young's first HR in a Phillies uniform, or his first meltdown?

Is their room in the Phillies outfield for Young, or is he a $750,000 pinch hitter?
