I agree completely and said something similar in a another thread on this topic.Seahawks08 wrote:Ding ding ding we have a winner!
From God...aka Morgan Freeman"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.
It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.
CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.
You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem."

We deserve to be fucked (and shot) if we can't have an intellegent discussion on how to at least try to keep guns out of the hands of nuts.
What he posted were facts...the SEMI automatic...and the issue of the guns being STOLEN from the mother. Very few people object to FACTS being posted by the news folks. What they object to is when the FACTS are manipulated to fit a particular writer's agenda...often a hate filled agenda.
In the end, the IDIOTS on both sides of the issue are usually preceded by the media IDIOTS fabricating/manipulating a story to fit a particular means to an end. And let's face it, the media is overwhemingly liberal, with very few news agencies, and posters such as yourself, reporting news without "commentary" designed to stear the conversation in a particular direction.

On the day of the shooting they fucked up the name of the shooter, but I'm supposed to trust them with regards to the gun ownership history. The facts will come out, and maybe they got the gun ownership stuff correct, but on the day of the shooting, hours after they got the shooters name wrong, I wasn't going to blindly accept anything the media reported.

Interesting read about the Oregon mall shooting that will most likely get very little coverage.

Sounds like a concealed carry guy stopped many more from dying. The break in gunfire allowed Meli to pull out his own gun, but he never took his eyes off the shooter.
"As I was going down to pull, I saw someone in the back of the Charlotte move, and I knew if I fired and missed, I could hit them," he said.
Meli took cover inside a nearby store. He never pulled the trigger. He stands by that decision.
"I'm not beating myself up cause I didn't shoot him," said Meli. "I know after he saw me, I think the last shot he fired was the one he used on himself."

Re: 26 Killed (18 Kids) in CT School Massacre
THe stories of all these victims should get coverage. It's sad. We know the names and can recognize the pictures of the mall killer, that nut in Tuscon and now this fucking kid but we can't put a face or name to the victims. These people aren't loners. They are rejects. They have been rejected socially and when they snap, they do so and attempt to go out making thier names infamous. It's a shame, really. We should be celebrating the teacher that shielded her students and the teacher that locked her room and read stories to the kids. The countless life events which have been selfishly robbed from 26 families should be the focus. It's a shame though that we will soon forget.BlueHen86 wrote:Sounds like the guy is a responsible gun owner, his story should get more coverage.SeattleGriz wrote:Interesting read about the Oregon mall shooting that will most likely get very little coverage.

The media caters to their audience, they know who is watching and they tell them what they want to hear. People want commentary in their news, that's why we get it. It's not just a liberal media thing, people that don't like the liberal media can easily turn to Fox (and based on what I hear about ratings, most do).kalm wrote:The media is for profit.Cluck U wrote:
