People can say whatever they want, but when I hear people use that word or the "N" word, I think of them as unsensative, bigoted hicks. Same when they are derogatory towards any race, sex, handicapped person etc. It's not about being politically ccorrect, it's about respecting other human beings. If someone on the street or on a messageboard uses words like this, that's their problem, if someone I know and care about used them, I confront them.

Hey, if my handicapped niece wants to call her friends "retarded", she's got that right. I haven't suffered like my niece does every day of her life (through no fault of her own, I might add). I was in St. Louis a couple weeks ago and head this exact 2 converstations, tell me if they make sense:

I don't let words hurt me and that may be a difference between some of us. I let someone's intent dictate whether they are trying to be racist, bigoted or whatever. I go ahead and use common sense in my approach to that instead of emotion. The more I pin others in on these issues the more I allow others to begin to pin me in on the things that I do/say.

On the ebonics thing, if a culture wants to have something to call their own even if it's inside of another culture IDGAF about that either. They may not want you to know what they are saying. I am not a big fan of not understanding what others are saying when they are talking to me specifically but if someone's speaking in any other language to one of their contemporaries then I'm not real bothered by it.
