To this thread topic, is Rich Kotite still out there?
They're definitely beatable outside the Wa-Griz of the NFL.

Adam Shefter is reporting that Reid is close to becoming the next coach in Kansas City. He apparently cancelled his flight to Arizona for his Cards interview.

After the year Reid had, I can't think of a reason why to jump right into another HC job. Take a year or two to get back mentally. He can't be hard up for cash.

Eh, it's just like the reason that it was good for the Eagles to let Reid go - you just need a change for change sake. Reid going to KC is going to be a change for him - new people to work for and work with, new team, new setting. He's the only one who can really say if it's right for him. If he thinks he is mentally in the game then by all means go for it.

I really thought Chicago would be a good fit for him. A talented QB that he could maybe get into shape, some very good weapons on offense to use (Forte, Hester, Marshall, Bennett, Jefferies). The defense in Chicago is top notch and has a 2 or 3 years left at it's current level with it's current set up so he doesn't have to touch the defense...that's a win win for everyone.

Oh well.

I'm warming up to the potential hire of a Chip Kelly for the Eagles. There's something to be said for new blood and I'm not terribly impressed with the NFL assistant coaches they are looking at right now. I think Kelly has the capability to adapt play calling to the NFL - heck, he ran the QB less this year than the Skins ran RG3 so he could even make an offense with Nick Foles at the helm. I'm up for a roller coaster ride, let's take the gamble and go with Kelly.

How long ago where you in KC?

I'm moving there in the "near" future, may have to hit you up for advice when the time comes.

1999 was when I left - lived in Overland Park, KS & worked in downtown KC. Highly recommend KC, if you need any info I'll try to help out.

You would think Philly would be attractive to a coach given Reid's lengthy tenure and that they have a lot to build on. Buffalo is interviewing Kelly... WTF would anyone even entertain Buffalo? They don't even play all their home games at home, haven't been to the playoffs since 1999, have to play NE twice a year, have had six coaches since Marv Levy left after 1997...

Why would anyone want to live in Philly or Buffalo over Eugene? :coffee:

Why does it matter where they live? These guys spend 80% of their time working or thinking about football. A coach would move to MARS if he got paid enough and was able to win with the organization.

Honestly, I'm just holding out delusional hope that he won't bolt, but I think the Ducks will be in good hands with the current OC at them helm, and they won't exactly be hurting for talent the next couple of seasons.

Good point.

I was surprised that Andy went right back to work so early, particularly in light of the significant family problems he's had. By all accounts, the son that OD'ed was his "good" son. The other son is the one that pointed a gun at another driver in 2007 and was busted for driving under the influence of smack another time.

You figure Andy would try to at least be a father for a little bit.

Plus Andy's health has to be poor. He's gained a ton of weight in the last 10 years and look really terrible overall lately.

I get the arguement that he didn't spend a lot of time with his kids, but they are still millionares with a mom who was home all the time. Many kids only have one parent, and that parent sometimes works many hours. Andy's kids had it very good. I think they are just scumbags with no ambition.

Not only that, but these kids weren't kids anymore - Garrett Reid was 29 when he died this year. Taking off a year to "be a fether for a little bit" wouldn't matter at all now - his sons are adults and are well past the age that Andy is responsible for them. Some people get hooked on drugs and they can never recover. Nothing but sadness about that.

He has three other younger kids as well. I'm just surprised at a person who can make their job so much a part of their life, sleep in the office, etc and completely ignore their family, especially when the oldest two kids were drug addicts five years ago, sticking guns in people's faces, t-boning old ladies while sky high on smack and leaving the scene, etc. When you've clearly failed as a father, maybe you take a little time to spend with the kids you have left, seeing as how the first two turned into convicts?

Who's to say how much time you need to spend with your kids to make sure they don't end up as drug addicts? There are plenty of addicts out there who had great parents and great upbringings and still fell to their addictions. And I'm not so sure these guys completely ignore their families - just because some guys go overboard on the staying in the office I think it's a bit of a myth in terms of how much these guys put into the job. Plenty of coaches say they get home every day and eat with their kids. Just because some guys like Vermeil and Gruden went all in with the time in the office doesn't mean everyone does that.
