After months of hearing the criticism of her late husband, Sue Paterno has gone on the attack. She issued a letter blasting the credibility of the Freeh Report, indicating that the description of Joe Paterno in the report didn't even remotely resemble the man she knew. She came just short of accusing Louis Freeh of being a caloused liar.
Sure, this could be just the recriminations of a wife scorned. But it seems that Paterno's former athletes, including one with the Seahawks, are coming forward to vouch for her characterization of her husband. Apparently, a new Penn State trustee elected by disgruntled voters is speaking out in trustee meetings about the horrible rush to judgment. Other critics are decrying the way in which the Freeh Report downplayed the failures of CPS. Still more remain angry over the way in which the legend was fired -- via a late-night phone call (IMO, that's worse than the underhanded way in which the late Tom Landry found out about HIS bogus firing, from reporters) -- and the way in which the Freeh Report and the NCAA sanctions were handled. Sue Paterno recorded an interview on the Katie Show due to air soon.
But the Paternos have not just gone ghost. Sue Paterno is still helping organize Special Olympics events on campus. Former assistant coach Jay Paterno has done speaking engagements with students and is still attending Nittany Lion sporting events. They support current head man Bill O'Brien.
In any event, Sue Paterno says that the Freeh Report and the NCAA's decision (currently the subject of an antitrust lawsuit filed by the governor which could bankrupt the NCAA based on federal provisions that treble antitrust damages) should not "close the book" on this scandal. If Sue Paterno's accusation are anywhere close to the truth, Freeh is guilty of a hatchet job of infinite degree and should be forever barred from this sort of work.

Character Assassination

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: Character Assassination
I had read about Character back when he was an 8th grader playing up against u17 AAU teams, where he was averaging double figures in points and boards. His Sr. Year, he and Greg oden were the highest rated prep stars in the country. Pretty sad to see all that potential fizzle out.CAA Flagship wrote:RIP Derrick Caracter.
