Delaware sits atop the latest ESPN Mid-Major Top Ten. UOP just kicked in the door for the first time this year at #9, ahead of future conference chum (?) #10 Gonzaga.

The only other FCS school is #5 TN-Chattanooga. All other schools in this poll are either low-FBS or I-AAA.

The mid-major polls (both genders) are always a bit dubious. Just one example: the Lady Griz are getting fewer votes than either Idaho State or MSU even though UM has a 2-game lead over the Bobcats and a 3-game lead over the Bengals (and a better overall record than either one, as well). Your Hornets are above ISU, too, and not getting any votes at all.

UOP IS joining the WCC next season (unfortunately). Many Gonzaga fans (and probably a few Gonzaga admin officials) are upset about that and have explored the options for leaving. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be very many viable options available to them. They're not going to get into the Pac-12, they don't fit academically with the MWC or the Titanic known as the WAC, and they're geographically too separated from the C7. Gonzaga is stuck in the WCC, but it's still a good place for them to be. They get good regional coverage and some decent competition.

That's a mystery. Sure, UOP is going to do fairly well in the WCC. But they're not likely to knock Gonzaga off their perch any time soon. Gonzaga is sitting in the cat-bird seat at the moment, and look to remain there for quite some time unless they do something stupid. Their staff doesn't seem to have the issues with this that some of their fans do. Like I say, it's a mystery, dal.

StonyBrook beat Binghamton last night on the road 60-57. The Seawolves are now 13-12 overall and 5-7 in America East play. They travel to take on Vermont on Saturday.

Harvard regressed yesterday. We lost to Penn 77-72 as a comeback bid fell short.

UOP has apparently fixed whatever last week's problem was. They beat CS Northridge 74-56 behind Erica McKenzie's school-record-tying 8 treys. E-Mac was 8-10 from behind the arc as she netted 26 points on Valentine's Day. The team's 15 made three-bombs (65.2%) tied a Big West Conference record. Double-Double Machine Kendall Kenyon was limited by foul trouble, but still posted 12 points in ten minutes of work. Kendall Rodriguez was 5-7 from downtown as she dropped in 16 points and dished out a half-dozen helpers. UOP improved to 19-5, 9-3 Big West. Northridge dropped to 12-12, 6-6 Big West.

Sac State played some monster defense in Love Night's 80-62 rout of North Dakota. The Hornets forced 31 turnovers and scored 48 points off of them as they improved to 9-1 at the Hornets Nest this season. Sac (14-9, 9-5 Big Sky) moves into a tie with Idaho State and Eastern Washington for third place in the Big Sky with the win. Everything started clicking when the Hornets switched to a full-court press with five minutes and change left in the first half, up 24-22. The erstwhile Sioux couldn't handle the pressure, giving up 8 turnovers from that point until halftime, prompting a 14-0 Hornet run. The UNDers only managed three missed shots in all that time. Pressure caused most of the turnovers, but it was in a half-court set where the Hornets cause a lot of damage by pushing North Dakota into the last three seconds of the shot clock ten times, forcing three shot clock violations. In those ten possessions, UND made a whopping TWO baskets. Kylie Kuhns led the way for the Hornets with 20 points (10-15 shooting) with 8 boards and 6 assists. Alle Moreno put in 17, including five treys. Fantasia Hilliard just missed a double-double with 17 points and 7 helpers. Megan Kritscher blocked four shots and now needs just seven to break the Big Sky single-season rejections record (100). Sac faces Northern Colorado at the Nest on Sunday afternoon.

Liberty won their sixth straight game Thursday night 69-54 over Winthrop at the Vines Center thanks to a 16-2 run midway through the second half when trailing 44-42. Both teams struggled from the field during the first half, but Reagan Miller fueled the Flames' recovery in the second half with a pair of 3-bombs during the big run. Liberty now leads the Big South by two games at 19-6, 11-2. Winthrop falls to 15-10, 9-4 Big South. The Flames host Radford at 3 ET this afternoon live on ESPN3.

Cat bird yeah I'll say the men are ranked #5 in the country they will get a no.1 seed easily and should stay out west.Those who are scared need to calm down Pacific as you said is no threat to them.They have two 7ft'ers on the team maybe they will finally get to the national title game.

Harvard was dumped by Princeton last Saturday 67-51. Princeton is still undefeated in Ivy play and they may be the ones to go to the Dance.

UOP reached 20 wins tonight for only the third time ever. The Tigers thumped cellar-dwelling CS Foolerton (3-10, 7-18 Big West) 81-50 to open their their last home stand before a season-ending three-game road stretch against also-rans Long Beach State, UC Ir-Whine, and UC Davis. Saturday's home finale is against UC Riverside, and could result in a program-record 21st win. UOP (20-6, 10-4 Big West) shares the conference lead with Hawai'i, a half-game ahead of second-place Cal Poly. On the year, UOP has taken care of business at home, posting a 12-2 record in the friendly confines of Spanos Center, and is a respectable 8-4 on the road. I'm not sure how a tiebreaker will work. UOP has a split with Hawai'i, but was swept by Cal Poly. UOP must hope that CP is NOT involved in any tie. One more CP loss will do it; however, the only likely remaining game for that is Saturday against Hawai'i. CP lost big to the Rainbow Wahine on the island. Hawai'i can drop out of the tie for first with a season-ending home loss to CS Fullerton, certainly within the realm of possibility as Fullerton beat the Wahine by nine around New Year's. As things stand now, I think UOP will claim the #2 spot.

Following last weekend's failure to hold serve against Northern Colorado, Sac State (14-10, 9-6 Big Sky) is off until Saturday, when the Lady Hornets go on the final three-game road trip of the season (@ NAU, @ Weber State, @ Idaho State). Sac closes out the season at home against the Montanas. The Hornets are tentatively qualified for the Big Sky Conference Tournament with the fifth seed, pending the outcome of the final five games. The standings are so tight that Sac could finish anywhere from first (highly unlikely) to out (quite possible). Three to four wins seem likely, though, (given that we've already beaten the teams in question) which COULD move Sac higher, depending on the outcome of other games. The only true question mark is the Idaho State game, as the Bengals beat the Hornets by ten at the Nest. That game was a surprise, as the Hornets have generally played according to Hoyle at home (9-2); it is playing on the road that has destroyed Sac's season (5-8). My guess is that the Hornets will move up a spot in the BSCT before all is said and done (I hope).

Liberty (21-6, 13-2 Big South) won their tenth straight on the road (eighth win in a row overall), 75-43 over hapless UNC-Asheville (2-25, 0-16 Big South). The win puts the Lady Flames two games up in the Big South Conference. Liberty plays their last road game Saturday against not much better Gardner-Webb before closing out the season with a two-game homestand against .500 Coastal Carolina and the disaster known as Chuck South. The Flames are consistent regardless of game location: 11-3 at home, and 10-3 on the road. I anticipate that Liberty will win out. The #1 seed in the BSCT is pretty much Liberty's to lose.

UOP broke the school record for wins in a season with tonight's Senior Night victory over UC Riverside, led by senior Kendall Rodriguez' double-double and a trio of treys from fellow senior Erica McKenzie. UOP is 21-6, 11-4 Big West, and is tied for first. Hawai'i (, 11-4 Big West) has the tiebreaker due to their split over third-place Cal Poly (which swept UOP). CP is in a dangerous position for UOP, though, because they can snag the #1 seed in the conference tournament in the event of a three-way tie due to that very sweep.

Kylie Kuhns notched her 12th double-double of the season (48th on her career) to lead Sac (15-10, 10-6 Big Sky) to a 78-68 win at NAU (7-18, 6-10) to clinch a berth in the BSCT. Kuhns (14 pts, 13 rebs) is now within 17 rebounds of claiming the league career record. The Hornets have avoided back-to-back losses since December (SIU-Edwardsville and EIU).

Liberty set a program record with their 11th straight road win, 55-40 at Gardner-Webb. In the process, Devon Brown passed Megan Frazee to claim second place on the Flames' scoring chart; Brown finished the game with 1891 career points. The win clinched at least a share of Liberty's 14th league championship in 16 years. G-W was scoreless for the first 6 minutes of the game, and was held to 21.7% shooting (11.8% from 3) on the night. The Flames return home for a pair of games to end the season, including a shot at the 40th consecutive win over Coastal Carolina.

While the men's Ivy title hopes will wait for another day, the Crimson women meanwhile in Cambridge dented Princeton's high seed hopes and prevented them from sweeping yet another Ivy title. 58-55 final score

UOP beat UC Davis tonight to win its first outright Big West Conference regular season championship and claim the #1 seed in the upcoming Big West Conference Tournament at the Pond in Anaheim. Amazing that it happened during the Tigers' final season in the conference after joining in the late '60s (when it was called the PCAA).

Sac State took out Montana to gain entry into the Big Sky Conference Tournament (something the boys unfortunately couldn't get done despite leading at the half).

Liberty is playing for a double Big South Conference Championship and a double bid to the NCAAs. I don't think that's ever happened with the Flames before. I'm naturally hoping it does....
