Anderson is going to make a lot of money, either from UGA, Memphis or Mizzou.

* Looks like Few is staying put. He turned down the Oregon job, his chance to go back "home". Fact that Floyd and Capel are being contacted (Floyd reportedly flew to Arizona today) makes it seem that Few said "no".

* Oregon is staying with Kent (since Few turned it down)

* App St. officially offered to Buzz. We'll know within 48 hours.

* Memphis plans to target Bruce Pearl and Tim Floyd, with big money as the grease. Floyd might be moot is he's in Arizona.

UGA hires Nevada coach Mark Fox out of left field... My first thought, much like the kids I was hanging out with tonight was.... who? Apparently this guy is pretty decent though, took Nevada to the tourney three straight years and has never won less than 21 games. Doesn't seem like the Rock Star hire UGA was going for, but after looking through the guys history, seems like a pretty solid hire.

Fox should have never been around for Georgia to hire. He'd be a great fit at Arizona or Washington St. But both programs passed him over, neither even looked at him.

Waiting for some sort of final rejection from Sean Miller about the Arizona job. Looks like Arizona is willing to go to about 15 million for 6 years. That's alot of Drachma.

all three are noteworthy to Arizonans.

Good luck to Bone - sorry to see him leave the Big Sky.

bump.

Still waiting on App St. to go with another candidate other than Buzz. And UTPA has been coachless for many moons.

Cobb put out a press release today. I'm amazed that it deals with basketball and slightly embarrassed the search has taken this long. Major egg on the face if Buzz turns down again.
Dear Appalachian Family,

I want to take this opportunity to update our faithful supporters on the search process for a new men's basketball head coach. While I acknowledge that this note will not answer all questions or address all rumors, my hope is that it will alleviate some of the concerns created by misguided information that has arisen throughout the search.

We are in an enviable position to be thorough in our search for two primary reasons.

First, our pool of candidates is deep and varied because of the great interest in Appalachian and the low turnover of Division I jobs this offseason. In fact, the short list of candidates that we identified as the best potential fits for our University and our men's basketball program in late March remains almost entirely intact.

Secondly, we have 14 current players scheduled to return for the 2009-10 season. With 12 of those players currently on scholarship, we are not losing immediate ground in recruiting because the NCAA only allows 13 scholarship positions and it was unlikely that we would sign a player in the late signing period that would be a difference maker next season or beyond. Written another way, the core of next year’s team is already on campus and working together academically and athletically. I credit the maturity of these young men and the leadership of Coach Matt McMahon in working hard through the uncertainty of the past several weeks. Certainly, the new leader for our program will set the direction, but they will inherit a great group of guys that is ready to work this summer and fall.

While we do have constraints that limit us and we are not in a position to offer many of the salaries and perks that it has been reported that we have offered to various candidates, we are committed to putting together a financial package that will attract the best possible leader for our program given the uncertain economic times of our campus and state.

As I told our players a couple of weeks ago, I want our team to be a part of March Madness ... to cut down the nets at the SoCon Tournament ... all while continuing their great representation of all of us in the classroom.

As always, we thank you for your interest and support. It is great to read and hear all of the discussion about Appalachian men's basketball.

Today I Give My All For Appalachian State,

Charlie Cobb

New coach at Hampton as well. Ed Joyner, Jr.
"This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.
... We must do this by labor, by suffering, by sacrifice, and if needs be, by our lives and the lives of others."
