Danica Finishes 8th In the 500

Post by 93henfan »

Sure, mediocre if she were a man, but very impressive for a woman.

Great job, woman.

Now get freshened up, because Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. wants dinner and sex tonight.

She really got schooled on that last lap, I think.

I STILL don't know what happened on that last lap. I think she should have made a move with three laps left....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I'm by no means an expert on auto racing. But given that finish, I think her drop at the end was totally out of her control. She was running in 3rd for most of the last few laps in the outside line, with cars blocking her to the inside, but right at the end, the car in front of her (Biffle?) slowed down and she had no way around, which dropped her from 3rd to 8th.

Seems to me like the majority of the race was run with a pack of cars running 2 or 3 wide, and hardly any real opportunities to pass. Is that due to these new "generation" of cars? or particular to this track? or just the general operating mode of restrictor plate racing?

She ran a good race. Inexperience reared its ugly head at the end though.

What happened is she went from third to eighth on the final lap. Her position on the track wasn't ideal, but that was really her fault. When the white flag came down, drivers behind her had better track position and exploited that on the last lap.

Danica didn't have a teammate to assist at the end. The two Hendrick teammates hooked up for the Jimmie Johnson win with teammate Jr. in 2nd. If Stewart and Patrick had both been there at the end she might have stood a chance.

I thought that she drove a pretty smart race. I expected that she would lose spots on the last lap, but she stayed out of trouble all day and she didn't cause a last lap crash trying to hold onto her position.

I have to admit that all the attention got me to almost watch the first race since seeing one live in Vegas about a decade ago. I decided to go grocery shopping and pick up a winter's worth of dog poop instead.

You didn't miss much. NASCAR f'ed up wit this next gen car as far as super speedway racing- was almost no bump drafting, tandem or pack racing. With the exception of the last couple of laps, little to no passing all race. Most of the race a bunch of single file lap after lap after lap with no passing. :ohno:

Had a couple of decent wrecks, and a little bit of excitement the last 2 laps. But overall this was the most boring Daytona 500 I've ever watched. :ohno:

Hopefully the next gen car will be more exciting on the mile and a half and short tracks.

I like NASCAR, but I don't like the superspeedways. Give me Bristol or Dover anyday.

Even Dover can be boring. I was at a race there in the '80's where Bobby Allison won by 3 laps. That's no joke. 3 laps ahead of the second place finisher.

Little E laid back and built up momentum to pass her low. She should have recognized that and blocked him the second he made the move. Biffle made the same mistake.

Back in those days, you knew the winner, 90% of the time, would come from a group of less than 10 guys. There was far less competition than there is now. You'd be hard pressed to find a Dover race in the past twenty years where the whole field was lapped, while that was the norm in the 70s. There was Petty, Pearson, Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip (in the late 70s), and then a whole bunch of also-rans. Do you remember how many cars blew engines back then? Sometimes it was two thirds of the field. And when I say blow, those things turned into a smoke bomb and sometimes dumped so much oil that the car blowing would wreck.

By the 80s, tons more sponsor money was starting to flow in. The quality of race teams and the fan interest went way up. When I attended my first race at Dover, it seated 22,000 people. By the late 90s, when they still allowed infield spectators, the place had 175,000 on Sunday. I miss that. They're lucky if they get 80,000 anymore.

I miss those days too. I loved how the city of Dover basically shut down entirely during race weekend and how everyone would bitch about all the race fans tying up traffic, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Bet they wish they were still showing up now.

Junior had a heckuva last lap - if he had done anything in the first 199 he might've won.

Anyway I thought Danica ran a good race all day long.

Have we heard from Sh this morning? I bet he creamed his panties when she finished in the top 10.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

She made a liar out of everyone but SH yesterday, so congrats on that. I was certain she'd turn right and end up in the stands before 50 laps. ;)

Not really. He made several posts on these numerous Danica threads insisting she was going to win....

My point was that I think he was the only one that thought she'd actually finish.
