Who cares? I'm going back to the Episcopal Church. Common sense Catholicism.

Knowing EXACTLY what it will do to this board, I'm going to nominate the following:
- Spoiler: show

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Regarding Mahoney:
These people are Catholic Cardinals - eligible to be pope - god's spokesperson on earth, according to the catholics. With Benedict walking away, one must shudder at the culture of lies and deceit inherent in the church. One must question if the church is a worth vehicle for the spiritual needs of man. It's a holy mess.
Also, O'Brien finally admitted he sexually abused seminarians and priests. This after he steadfastly denied (lied) the allegations and finished up a career full of homophobic rants and active support for official discrimination against gay people.LOS ANGELES — Responding to protests over his attendance at the conclave in Rome to elect a new pope, Cardinal Roger Mahony told Catholic News Service this week that the Vatican told him to come to Rome and participate.
“Without my even having to inquire, the nuncio in Washington phoned me a week or so ago and said, ‘I have had word from the highest folks in the Vatican: You are to come to Rome and you are to participate in the conclave,’” Mahony told the news service.![]()
The retired cardinal has been under fire for his handling of sexual abuse cases, particularly his role in hiding molestations by priests from authorities. The cover-ups were revealed with the recent release of thousands of pages of detailed court documents about the cases.

Re: Who is going to be the next Pope?
The way I understand it (there may, of course, have been changes over the years) is that the only thing being a cardinal gets one is admission to the vote. I don't believe that one HAS to be a cardinal to be elected Pope. In fact, one does not even have to be a priest, much less a bishop, to be elected.
Of course, the most obvious people WILL be cardinals. At least that gets away from a lay "businessman" buying the job as has happened in the past. Besides, whatever the failings of the RC church as a whole, they have too much integrity as a group to "go there" again. It WILL be a cardinal, as I think it has been since the Middle Ages. Just note that some are calling for one who is good as an administrator who will have the nads (perhaps that's an unfortunate term) to stand up to the corruption in the Vatican. That may well require going "outside the box." We shall see.

What goes on during the becoming a pope ceremony?

Religion is dying a slow death. Catholocism is the poster child for the dangers of organized religion.
You do not need that nonsense to have meaninful relationship with god. That people do need it is not a product of reason, but the result of thousands of years of forced indoctrination and trillions of dollars worth of infrastructure focused on manufacturing need.

Everything arises from our biology. There is a reason why the existence of religion is a common thread among civilizations. It's there because it promotes the proliferation of the species. Remember that as you attack it.That people do need it is not a product of reason, but the result of thousands of years of forced indoctrination and trillions of dollars worth of infrastructure focused on manufacturing need.

The Church will never fail. Christ has guaranteed that. He can't help that some within that church don't live up to his standard. Remember FREE WILL. Remember that whole little speech I gave you and you still refused to answer ONE question. Hmmm...........D1B wrote:bluehenbillk wrote:I just don't want a European, pick someone from the Americas or Africa and they may inspire the masses.
