All franchise businesses, the parent company pulls the strings. In this case the NBA is the parent company and they are wholly in the right to say who the Maloofs can sell the team to. If it is not a good sale for them, they won't allow it to be done. Same as your local Subway store.SDHornet wrote:The NBA is in a pickle with this sale. If they allow it, it tells every midsized/small market NBA city out there that they can do everything, get an arena deal done, publicly finance it and still lose their team to the whims of the outgoing owners. However on the other end by the NBA disallowing the sale it tells owners that the NBA can dictate who they can/cab't sell their team to. Sac/KJ has done all he can to keep the team in Sac. This decision is going to be interesting. Depending how the next few weeks go leading up to the BOG vote, at best I give Sac a 50-50 chance.JALMOND wrote:
The Sacramento offer is "a bit" lower than the Seattle offer, but it did make KJ's deadline of March 1. The NBA owners will vote on both proposals on April 18. The Seattle group did clear one hurdle as a court judge threw out the longshoreman union's lawsuit against the proposed new arena there. There is still one more significant lawsuit left as well as an environmental study that needs to be done before Seattle gets the all-clear on their arena deal, and from what I'm hearing, that won't get started until Seattle is 100% certain they are getting the Kings. I don't think there are any hangups on Sacramento's new arena deal. The arena deals may be what makes it as both Key Arena and Arco are woefully below NBA standards.

Last night, CBS13 in Sac teased something about a massive blow to the Seattle bid, but I missed exactly what it was.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

The longshoremen's union got their lawsuit ruling overturned. It is back in play. Actually I would not call it a "massive blow" but it is noteworthy. It is a big hurdle for the Seattle group to overcome as it has to be settled before the new arena can be built, but nothing really that can't be worked out in Seattle's favor. I'd be really surprised if it comes down to this lawsuit that cancels the deal.SuperHornet wrote:Last night, CBS13 in Sac teased something about a massive blow to the Seattle bid, but I missed exactly what it was.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- NBA Commissioner David Stern said Friday night that the counteroffer to keep the Sacramento Kings from moving to Seattle needs to be increased financially before the league's owners would even consider the bid.
Speaking to reporters before the Golden State Warriors hosted the Houston Rockets, Stern said the Sacramento group's offer has some "very strong financial people behind it but it is not quite there in terms of a comparison to the Seattle bid." He added that "unless it increases, it doesn't get to the state of consideration."

Good to know, Mastrov needs to thank Stern for giving him a roadmap to buying the Kings. No reason why he can't revise the bid to be "more competitive".Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:http://www.nba.com/2013/news/03/08/ster ... ef:nbahpts
