Also forgot to mention: NAU's women lost to MSU at home, so Southern Utah has officially clinched the last tournament spot & will play NoCo in the quarters.
And you have to feel bad for Amy Patton. She finished her career 5th. all time in Big Sky history with 1938 points, but without even a single Big Sky Tournament appearance to show for it.
Here's what I believe the tourney situation is at the moment:
If NAU wins in Missoula: the 'Jacks are in, SUU is out, and Sac is in unless Eastern upsets Weber (which puts EWU in).
If NAU loses in Missoula: SUU is in for sure, and NAU is still in & Sac is out unless Eastern upsets Weber. that would instead put Sac in, and NAU & EWU out.
So NAU can only be eliminated if Eastern upsets Weber, if I've thought about this right.
MVP - Kareem Jamar (UMT)
Newcomer - Davion Berry (WEB)
Freshman - Venky Jois (EWU) (it could go to DeWayne Russell)
Defense - Will Cherry (UMT)
Coach - Wayne Tinkle (UMT)
Women
MVP - Katie Baker (UMT) (De Boer & Strange are possibilities—a shared MVP wouldn't be shocking)
Newcomer - Angela Misa (PSU) (I'm assuming Lexie Nelson isn't eligible since she played at UM as a freshman)
Freshman - Regina Okoye (WEB)
Defense - Megan Kritscher (SAC) (I really don't know on this one—a lot of possibilities, but Kritscher did set the blocks record)
Coach - Robin Selvig (UMT)
PSU 71-72 ISU; Tomas Sanchez hits a game-winner to hand last place to the Viks
EWU 57-65 WEB; A mostly subpar performance by the Wildcats, but a noticeable FT advantage gets it done
NAU 50-63 UMT; The 'Jacks score just 18 and get just 1 assist in the second half
SAC 55-71 MSU; In a must-win game, the Hornets shoot 35% against the defensively challenged Bobcats
SUU 61-68 UND; Thanks to the starting-lineup oddities of senior day, UND gets 62 of their 68 off the bench
Women
WEB 53-70 EWU; The Wildcats become the third team in Big Sky history to go winless overall ISU 61-54 PSU; The Bengals struggle, but win their 5th. straight against PSU
UMT 71-80 SAC; The Hornets commit only 6 fouls to Montana's 18
UND 94-95 UND(2OT); Megan Lauck scores 36 to help overcome a 21-point deficit, but SUU gets the win MSU 68-66 NAU; Amy Patton gets a double double in her final game, but the 'Jacks again lose

Weber beats Eastern.
Montana up 12 with 49 seconds left.
SUU clinches. NAU still clinches despite the loss.
Sac State, the only team other than Weber with a winning NC record, is out… for the 7th. straight year.
I would love for Wanless to axe Katz but I think he has 2 years left on his contract. This loss ends a horrid month of Hornet hoops and it couldn't have come at a worse time. Looking back its amazing how little Katz was able to get done with such a well balanced and versatile roster. Katz is fucking pathetic.

Boy did I screw the goose betting you. Figures that a fan of the team would know them better than some dumb hick SUU fan.

Hey I tried to let you back out of it, but you insisted.

The sad thing is that I learned absolutely NOTHING.

Really? I thought of Sac as a team that was getting quite a bit out of a lineup that isn't terribly talented. They were fundamentally sound this year, but lacking in dangerous shooters. Katz has been there long enough that the absence of shooting threats falls on him, though.
I will say that I thought the Hornets defended Montana better than most all of the other Griz opponents this season.

• Quality big man in Veteto
• Great (sometimes at least) 4 in Dickson
• Average at best swingman in Eberhard
• Solid 2 in McKinney
• Good point in Garrity (he needed to shoot a hell of a lot more than he did)
Our bench was piss poor but there were capable bodies to eat up minutes when needed. Now compare that against a mostly awful BSC and there is no excuse for the Hornets sitting at home during the BSCT. There were some epic collapses that were the difference this season and unfortunately those have been common place under Katz. This was the year to finally push this program to a new level (even if it is just a BSCT appearance) and Katz couldn’t get it done.
I don't know who he is but the big guy who starts for Sac, #41 I think, looked horrible during the game on Thursday. Couldn't make a simply layup. Multiple times he tried and didn't even come close.

I don't think Veteto is all that quality—he was particularly awful in Missoula (I remember the play where he made a good move to get open, then promptly granny-shot of the bottom of the rim).
McKinney was dangerous when on, but not too useful when off.
Garrity's a good point guard, but distribution doesn't do much good when his teammates miss the wide open shots.

Veteto averaged 10 points and 6 boards a game (also shot a respectable 61% from the stripe). He wasn't a dominant big man but he did have a presence. Yeah he had an awful game at UM and didn't see the floor in the final game at MSU. He might have re-injured his knee (complete guess on my behalf) but something happened to him heading into that final road trip.
