And you are right, Curling is a junior, the rest are freshman. They also have a decent recruiting class with 3 top 100 recruits commited.

Re: NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships
At 141 lbs. - Rick Durso of Franklin & Marshall almost pulled of the upset of the tourney so far, losing to top seed Hunter Steiber (34-0) of Ohio St 9-8.
Durso (39-4), the 9 seed, had Steiber on his back and a 7-5 lead midway through the third period, but Steiber battled back for the win.
Also at 141 lbs. - 6 seed Undrakhb Khishignyam (41-4) of The Citadel has advanced to the semifinals. He will finish no worse that 6th, top 8 are All-American. The match will be televised on ESPNU tonigh at 7:00.

133 Wolfensperger is a 9 seed against the 6 seed McCormick from Missouri
141 Lazor is unseeded against 5 seed Henderson from UNC
184 Loder is a 6 seed against 8 seed Ihnen from Nebraska
UNI a slight underdog at 133, a definite underdog at 141 and a slight favorite at 184. Odds are they will get at least 1 win, but winning all 3 is possible, they are in Iowa after all.
Re: NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships
I wouldn't bet on Wolfy tonight. After I got home from work I looked at who he actually had. McCormick major'd him twice this year.BlueHen86 wrote:Based on seeding:clenz wrote:I an extremely impressed with UNIs showing right now.

Loder is wrestling a kid I went to church with growing up that is/was a freak of an athlete. 93-1 his last two years of HS, and a 151-11 record overall. 3 year letter winner in football (hell of a LB on a team that finished second in the state) and 2 time all district player...Siouxland Area Athlete of the year as a SR....3.99 GPA...ranked 10th coming out of HS.
Re: NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships
Wolfy and Lazor both go down....
Loder beats Ihnen from Nebraska...becomes UNI's second All American this year!

The Citadel qualifies two All-Americans. The Citadel had produced only one AA before this year's tournament.

Re: NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships
Team Scores prior to finals:
1. Penn State 114.5 (5 in finals)
2. Oklahoma St. 111.5 (2 in finals)
A win is worth at least 4 points but can be more if there is a major decision, tech fall or pin. Penn St is the underdog in 4 of their 5 matches, Oklahoma St. is the favorite in both of theirs. The tema race could come down to the last match of the night, and the match of the year: 165 Dake (Cornell) vs Taylor (Penn St).
Dake is trying to become a 4x champion, and, if he wins, will be the first person to do it in 4 different weight class. He beat Taylor 3-2 back in January. Talyor want a high scoring match, Dake likes defense; should be a great match.
