Wildcats beat Air Force by 21 78-57 in front of 6,113.
PA announcer said that Weber would host a round 3 game.
Most likely the winner of the UC Irvine/ Oral Roberts game.

Ecu and Evansville advanceand and play each other at ecu this weekend.
UNI up on Bradley by 13 at under 5 media to. AD dannen said we are hosting of we hold on.
Interesting because Weber said they are hosting is they win tomorrow.
I'd bet on UNI hosting of we hold on

Re: 2013 CIT Bracket
I was hoping that if Weber won today that the CIT would send one of the Eastern teams out west instead of sending a "29-6" Weber team out east already, was also hoping a Weber/UNI game would be saved for the championship.
Not suprised Weber is being forced to go on the road, but disappointed. Especially considering they are expecting at least 7,000 for tonight's game with a possibility of 8 to 9k on saturday

Re: 2013 CIT Bracket
Oral Roberts/Weber State attendance- 6,638. And we have to go on the road..............?
Total attendance in the CIT for the two teams that have hosted up till now.
UNI- 8,865
WSU- 15,060
I heard at the game, that the winner of UNI/WSU will host the championship game.
If that is true, than GO WEBER, BRING THAT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME TO OGDEN WHERE IT BELONGS

Re: 2013 CIT Bracket
Should have bid better....That and UNI is a much more widely known name.
UNI will host for shut if we win, if imagine WSU would as well.
I don't think we'd be playing if there was another western school left. Tough to send a team from NC or Indiana to Utah...especially since matching up Indiana and Iowa would be a conference game...and second in a row for UNI.
About the only thing they could have done, and I'm shocked they didn't, is ecu art uni and eville at wsu...but it sounds like ecu was aggressive with getting a home game

Re: 2013 CIT Bracket
I do, however, agree that UNI and WSU shouldn't be matched.
However, it looks like they went by RPI by hosting as well.
RPI rankings order
UNI
WSU
ECU
Evansville
KenPom has it
UNI
WSU
Evansville
ECU
I know they got a decent amount of "push back" from both UNI and Bradley for matching conference mates up without having to do so.
They way they could have done it was ECU @ UNI and Evansville @ WSU...but it wasn't going to happen that way.
The attendance is a tough judge as well. I don't know when WSU does spring break but UNI played 2 games over spring break at UNI...1 on a night where Iowa also played in their first post season game in years. Iowa drew 15K that night plus 3/4 of the state of Iowa watching on TV....couple that with this year being a massive let down from expectations for UNI fans and most of our "bandwagon" is empty.
This team was expected to be in the NCAA's and playing the third round/S16 this year by the majority of the fan base. Lost only 1 player from the year before...Played one of the toughest OOC SOS in the nation (5 point loss to Louisville [held them to their lowest point total of the season], 5 point loss to memphis, tight loss to Iowa, win vs St. Mary's, win vs. George Mason, loss @ UNLV plus wins vs Creighton and WSU.)
We finished alone in third in the 9th rated conference in America and got left out of the NIT, while a team that finished in 5th place got into it...We were 11 points in 4 losses (an OT loss and a loss on a foul called on a half court heave with .3 seconds left on the clock) away from winning the conference outright.
The fringe UNI fans fell off the bandwagon late in the year and jumped on the Iowa (NIT semi finalist and Iowa State NCAA 3rd round) wagon. The season was a let down to many.

How does a 3rd place MVC team not make the NIT and a 5th place MVC team make the NIT??? what a crock.
I am hoping that Weber can keep the game competetive, this will be our hardest game and the toughest opponent of the year. Weber is going to have to be firing on all cylinders to leave Cedar Falls with a win.
Here's hoping for a great matchup, got the one I wanted, (UNI/WSU) just not when I wanted it.

The casual fan is probably somewhat more likely to know about UNI than Weber State but I wouldn't say much more. WSU is not an unknown to knowledgeable basketball fans. They may have not been as successful as UNI over the last 10 years but they do have a very good basketball program with a longer history of success.clenz wrote:UNI is a much more widely known name.

Indiana State was 2 of the losses this year in part of taht 11 points away from being a conference champion - the other 2 losses were Evansville. I'm hoping to avoid E'ville if at all possible.Wildcat Ryan wrote: How does a 3rd place MVC team not make the NIT and a 5th place MVC team make the NIT??? what a crock.

Indiana State beat Miami early in the year and got real hot in the late non-con and first half of conference play. They were still being considered for an at-large going into the last 2 weeks of the season some how. They didn't deserve the NIT bid over UNI, but got it because of results in the UNI/ISU games this year I'd bet.
Most UNI fans want nothing to do with the state of Indiana
Indiana State won the last game we played against them by 1. UNI went up by 1 with 3 seconds left...UNI got called for a complete bullshit foul on a half court 3 attempt by a ISU player. He hit 2 of 3 to win the game. The very next game was at Evansville and we lost by 3 in overtime (also one of the 4 games by 11 points to cost us a title...actually all four of those games were to Indiana schools)
UNI has lost it's last 6 to the Indiana teams and is 1-7 in it's last 8 (2 years). The 1 win was Indiana State in Jan of 2012 in Cedar Falls.
To go back another year UNI is 2-10 against the Indiana schools. UNI beat E'ville at home in Jan 2011.
To go back three seasons (UNI's Sweet 16 season) UNI is 5-11 against Indiana schools...still lost to Evansville at Evansville.
So in the last 3 seasons UNI is 1-5 in the state of Indiana
The last time UNI beat Evansville was Feb 28, 2009..the last time UNI won at Evansville was Jan 13, 2008....I wasn't old enough to legally drink yet (though I did turn 21 7 days later)....I'm now 25 and will have a kid in the next week. We won't play in Indiana until at least Jan 2014 and I'll likely be 26. The really stupid part about it is UNI has been better than ISU and Evansville every single one of those years, except ISU once.
Yeah, UNI wants to avoid Evansville at ALL POSSIBLE costs. We aren't "scared" per say, but playing the odds.
That being said, WSU is a very tough draw. I think I saw KenPom has us as favorites, but only by 4 points and only at a 67% chance of winning. I would have prefered to see ECU @ UNI and Evansville @ WSU...as I'm sure WSU fans would have as well.
I dont know how they got the bracket for the semi's. I've tried to rationalize it every possible way:
-didn't want all MVC match-up with one team playing back to back conference mates...though that could have been avoided last round rather easily by sending Bradley somewhere else.
-Travel costs for WSU to UNI and E'ville to ECU is cheaper than ECU to UNI and E'ville to WSU - I actually have no idea if that's true. Average driving distance (yes I know that's different than flying) for the current match-ups is 984 miles. The average distance doing the other match-ups is 1,327 miles. So it may be a distance thing. Like I said, I know planes are different, but could still be the issue. Going straight line airport to airport (closest airport to the schools) The average distance for the current match ups is 792 miles (1000 Ogden to Cedar Falls and 585 Evansville to Greenville). The alternate match ups would give an average of (Greenville to Cedar Falls 938 and 1351 Evansville to Ogden) 1,144.
Still don't much care for it, though. I would have thought if there were seeds UNI would have been 1 and WSU would have been 2 and want to keep those on opposite sides.

Weber was one of the original "Cinderellas" , beating Michigan State and then North Carolina as a 14 seed in 1995 and 1999. Weber got a lot of coverage, especially the UNC game.UNI88 wrote:The casual fan is probably somewhat more likely to know about UNI than Weber State but I wouldn't say much more.
