Who says you can't go home again? On Monday, Jeff Garcia returned to his Bay Area roots by signing with the Raiders.
Garcia, 39, signed a one-year contract and is expected to compete with Andrew Walter and Bruce Gradkowski for two backup quarterback spots.
The move comes as a bit of surprise, given Garcia is accustomed to being a starter and won't be given that chance as long as third-year player JaMarcus Russell is healthy and playing well.
The Raiders are committed to Russell as their unquestioned starter and into him for $32 million guaranteed. Garcia arrives knowing his primary role is as a mentor to Russell and someone who can accelerate his maturation into a top-flight player.
