The Future of FCS Football - Sunday Story - Youngstown Vindy

Post by guinzone »

Youngstown State's beat reporter, Joe Scalzo, wrote a huge piece on the future of FCS Football in this Sunday's edition of the Youngstown Vindicator. He interviews quite a few people and really does a nice job outlining the future of this level of football.

It is my hope that the "Gang of 5" joins forces with the top conferences of the FCS to create a new level of football. We all know the likes of NDSU, Montana, YSU, etc. can compete with the "powers" of the MAC and Sun Belt.

Here is the article: http://www.vindy.com/news/2013/apr/14/fcs-mess/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He understands the lure of FBS football to recruits — it’s no coincidence his coaching staff is stocked with former FBS assistants — but he came to YSU because it gives him a chance to win a national championship.

“How many places in the country can you say that?” said Wolford, who coached in the Sun Belt with North Texas. “Unless you’re going to move up to one of the big power conferences, what are you playing for, other than maybe TV exposure?
:clap:

Great article. Thanks!

Here is an additional blog article by Joe Scalzo with even more thoughts on the future of FCS Football. Great read:

"That could lead the bottom half of the FBS to merge with the upper half of the FCS, something that would require several schools to swallow their pride in hopes of building a substantial second tier."

And back will come App St and Georgia Southern;-)
On December 12, 1775 the Continental Congress created a Battalion of minuteman from the three counties in Delaware. Kent county militia were fans and owners of Game Cocks; Fight'n Blue Hens as they were called. The Fight'n Blue Hens became known far and wide as the very best Fighting Game Cocks around. Thus, the Blue Hen was established.

This scenario has been discussed for years and years.
Most likely will never happen. BCS will probably expand from a four team playoff and kill any
possibility of it happening. Would like to see it in ways. Some really good schools that we will miss.

But it's the hope only of the top end of FCS, not the lower end of FBS or the Gang of 5. It takes two to tango.
