perhaps. I dunno. But Vokoun seemed to have the better success against the Islanders this regular season as well. Dunno why he didn't get the start, unless there were injury issues.89Hen wrote:Same as last year in the first round series against the Flyers. anyway, I guess they announced this afternoon that Vokoun would be starting tommorrow anyway.

First round ends tonight....Leafs-Bruins and Rangers-Caps. I'll be pulling for Boston and NY in those, I think. A really great first round. Still sticking with my Kings-Pens prediction.

Leafs choke a 3-goal third-period lead and lose to Boston in OT.
The Caps just laid a big turd in losing game 7 at home to Rangers 5-0.

Re: Obligatory NHL Playoff Thread
I didn't expect your red wings to come out and have a flat performance (other than Howard, who stood on his head). I thought the momentum from Game 7 would have carried over (I'm glad it didn't). I don't like all the damn time off inbetween games. They should be playing tonight, not tomorrow. I hate 2 games off inbetween games in the same city. Makes no sense. Why drag it out? My wife already hates my playoff beardAshevilleApp wrote:Wings advance.

I'm not sure I follow, seeing as how the Caps have won their first round series the last two years.Grizalltheway wrote:Well they hardly need your help to shit the bed in the first round...it's kinda what they do.93henfan wrote:

Agreed. NHL does it better than the NBA (in terms of days off between games) but there are a couple of times where there are 2 days between games though most are 1 day. There have been a couple of times with no days between games (see NYR-Caps Game 6 - 7 where they also needed to travel to DC from NYC)bodoyle wrote:I didn't expect your red wings to come out and have a flat performance (other than Howard, who stood on his head). I don't follow the Caps much at all, but their post season futility is mind-boggling. Ovie, Backstrom and Green - I don't get how it happens so much.Grizalltheway wrote:First round, second round...point is they're playoff chokers.93henfan wrote:

Re: Obligatory NHL Playoff Thread
I wasn't much of a hockey fan in general b/c, growing up in Chicago and Bill Wirtz owning the Hawks meant they were almost never on tv. He thought televising games would make fewer people come to the games. I also heard recently - not sure if they were joking or not - that he didn't want to win the Cup b/c that was expensive. I knew some players growing up listening to a few games on the radio, Roenick, Belfour, Chelios, Daze, heard about Savard etc, but I was never/rarely able to watch them (when they were on tv, it was cable, and we didn't have that until I was in high school). I follow them much more now, since after Old Man Wirtz died. I remember the day he passed away, I felt bad/sad for his family, but I was happy as a Chicago sports fan who only really followed hockey come Playoff time. What Rocky Wirtz has done is nothing short of incredible. I was not sure what two years Toews and Kane were drafted, and I saw it was 06 and 07. I guess my answer is no, since it wasn't possible to watch the Hawks before then.rkwittem wrote:Were you a Hawks fan before or after they got Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane?bodoyle wrote:Yea, I don't get it, but as long as my Hawks continue to win, I will be ok with it

I was lucky to grow up in Northern North Dakota. Hockey night in Canada had the Hawks with Hull and Mikita. Still remember the Canadien's beating them in the Finals a couple times in the early 70's.bodoyle wrote:I wasn't much of a hockey fan in general b/c, growing up in Chicago and Bill Wirtz owning the Hawks meant they were almost never on tv.
