Official:
George Mason is leaving CAA for A-10
First VCU, now George Mason. The two mid-majors that made stunning runs to the Final Four from the Colonial Athletic Association will reunite in the Atlantic 10.
George Mason is joining the A-10 as of July 1, an official with knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press on Sunday night. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because both the school and the conference plan to announce the move today.

Re: ATLANTIC TEN CONFERENCE
A-10 close to adding Davidson
The A-10 is close to adding Davidson to the league, likely in 2014-15, sources told CBSSports.com. The move is pending approval from the school's board of trustees.
The league has lost Butler and Xavier to the Big East, and is likely to see two more schools eventually bolt -- potentially Dayton and Saint Louis. The A-10 has already added George Mason, and commissioner Bernadatte McGlade had targeted Davidson -- which had previously spurned the CAA.
Davidson has been the elite school in the Southern Conference, but that league has also been hit by realignment as College of Charleston is bolting for the CAA. Bob McKillop has been the head coach since 1989, and the Wildcats have gone to the NCAA tournament in five of the past eight seasons.
Sources told CBSSports.com that Siena is also under consideration by McGlade to join the A-10.

5 Teams That Will Rise During The 2013-14 College Basketball Season
RHODE ISLAND
Can a team go 8-21 one year and compete for an Atlantic 10 title the next? Absolutely. The Rams will have a massive turnaround in 2013-14, thanks to four players that red shirted this past season. Gilvydas Biruta (Rutgers), Jarelle Reischel (Rice), and DeShon “Biggie” Minnis (Texas Tech) are three high-level transfers that should be immediate factors in Rhode Island’s rotation.

Re: ATLANTIC TEN CONFERENCE
Atlantic 10 offers challenge, reward for Davidson basketball
DAVIDSON Davidson College’s impending move from the Southern Conference to the Atlantic 10 is one of the rare conference realignment moves motivated by basketball rather than football.
In a time when schools are changing conferences for bigger television money for football, Davidson will go the Atlantic 10 in the 2014-15 season in search of an elevated national profile, a more challenging conference schedule and high-caliber recruits for its men’s basketball program.

Eric Skeeters new Mason Assistant BB Coach
University of South Florida assistant coach Eric Skeeters joined the USF staff for the 2009-10 campaign, following his five seasons as an assistant coach at Towson.
The 2011-12 season was a memorable one for Skeeters and the Bulls as they advanced to NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 years. In the postseason the Bulls defeated California in the First Round, 65-56, for their first win in the NCAA Tournament in program history. USF then beat Temple 58-44 in the Second Round before falling to Ohio 62-56 in the Third Round, just one game shy of reaching the Sweet Sixteen. Skeeters also was vital in helping the Bulls secure a top -15 recruiting class for the 2012-13 season.

Re: ATLANTIC TEN CONFERENCE
2013 Commissioner's Honor Roll
NEWPORT NEWS, Va.--The Atlantic 10 Conference recorded its second-highest number of student-athletes that earned a spot on the prestigious Commissioner's Honor Roll. There were 1,618 student-athletes that qualified for Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction for the Spring 2013 semester.
To be listed on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.5 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale) during the specified semester. Freshmen are eligible to receive the award.
The 1,618 honorees is second only to the Fall 2012 semester when 1,637 student-athletes received the distinction. For the 2012-13 year, there were 3,255 selections to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, which eclipsed the previous single-year record of 2,728 by over 500 selections.
"The fact that we continue to shatter records with the number of student-athletes honored with Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction is a credit to the dedication our student-athletes have to their academic endeavors," stated A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. "Academics is at the forefront of our mission as a conference and something our membership puts a high value on. These numbers demonstrate a commitment by our institutions to that academic success."
The Atlantic 10 also ranks second in the NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) among 31 conferences and fifth in the Academic Progress Rate (APR).

Re: ATLANTIC TEN CONFERENCE
Jon Rothstein’s Atlantic 10 Offseason Notebook
Power Rankings, Players To Watch & More
FIVE QUESTIONS ENTERING THE ATLANTIC 10
1. WILL THE CONFERENCE BE AS COMPETITIVE AS IT WAS LAST SEASON?
Without question. The Atlantic 10 may have lost brand name schools like Temple, Xavier, and Butler, but everyone else in the league improved since the end of last season. Teams like Fordham, Duquesne, Rhode Island, and George Washington should be significantly better than they were a year ago, while George Mason joins the conference as a team capable of beating anyone they have to play against. VCU may be the Atlantic 10′s clear favorite, but after that things are wide open.
2. HOW WILL LA SALLE HANDLE EXPECTATIONS?
The Explorers went to the Sweet 16 last season, but now for the first time under John Giannini they’ll have to deal with being the hunted. While many believed that VCU or Saint Louis were more likely to advance deep into the NCAA Tournament last season, La Salle played their best when it mattered most and found themselves as one of the premier stories during March Madness. Giannini has a savvy, veteran team that should be more than up to the task that is in front of them. The Explorers will start three senior guards — Tyreek Duren, Sam Mills, and Tyrone Garland along with two junior big men in Steve Zack and Jerrell Wright. Another name to watch on this team? Khalid Lewis. The Delaware transfer got bigger and stronger during his red shirt season, and should be La Salle’s first player off the bench.
3. COULD LESS BE MORE FOR SAINT JOSEPH’S?
Quite possibly. The Hawks have had high expectations the past two years, only to finish short of their goal of reaching the NCAA Tournament. Gone is combo guard Tay Jones and skilled big man C.J. Aiken, but Phil Martelli returns a strong base with seniors Langston Galloway, Halil Kanacevic, and Ron Roberts. The biggest surprise for Hawks’ fans may be freshman small forward DeAndre Bembry. The 6-6 wing is a terrific prospect that could have an impact in most BCS leagues — he’s that good. A high-level athlete with a tremendous nose for the ball, Bembry could go a long way in providing Saint Joseph’s with some of the intangibles they’ve been missing over the past two seasons. Another name to remember? Kyle Molock. The point guard has had multiple knee surgeries over the past few years, but the Hawks’ staff is cautiously optimistic that Molock can give them the type of pass-first floor general they’ve so desperately needed.
4. WILL RHODE ISLAND HAVE TWO OF THE TOP 10 PLAYERS IN THE ATLANTIC 10?
Absolutely. Xavier Munford is the conference’s top returning scorer at 17.4 PPG, while Rutgers transfer Gilvydas Biruta is simply a volcano just waiting to erupt. The 6-8 Biruta averaged 9.7 points and 5.7 rebounds two years ago with the Scarlet Knights, and has worked relentlessly during his red shirt year to expand his perimeter game. With he and Munford, Rhode Island has the foundation to immediately become a factor in just Danny Hurley’s second year in the Atlantic 10. Biruta will likely have the biggest impact of the Rams’ transfers, but Jarelle Reischel (Rice) and DeShon “Biggie” Minnis (Texas Tech) are both capable players that will be integral pieces of Rhode Island’s success. A real wild card for this team will be 6-4 freshman guard E.C. Matthews, who spurned several BCS schools to play for Hurley.
5. WHO IS THE SLEEPER?
Dayton. The Flyers lost six games last season by six points or less, and return several key contributors. Archie Miller’s team will miss do everything point guard Kevin Dillard, but adds several key pieces including freshman floor general Dayshon “Scoochie” Smith, who could wind up being the Flyers’ starting point guard. Ohio State transfer Jordan Sibert will also join the fold — along with big man Matt Kavanaugh — who was suspended for all of last season after averaging 9.0 PPG and 5.9 RPG during the 2011-12 campaign. Kavanaugh, Devin Oliver, and Jalen Robinson give Dayton a strong base in the front court, while Sibert, Smith, and Vee Sanford should round things out on the perimeter. Keep an eye on 6-6 sophomore Dyshawn Pierre, who shot an impressive 46.2% from three-point range last season as a freshman.
