Germany is the 'Most Popular Country in the World'

Post by BDKJMU »

"Europe's largest economy, Germany, which has been criticized for not doing enough to help struggling euro zone countries, has topped a poll as the world's most popular country.
The survey, carried out for the BBC, polled 26,000 people in 25 countries and asked them to rate 16 countries and the European Union as a whole on whether their influence on the world was mainly positive or negative.
Germany came out on top, with 59 percent of survey participants giving it a positive rating. The country moved up three percentage points from its 2012 position. It displaced Japan, which saw its positive rating fall from 58 percent last year to 51 percent, going from first to fourth place.
The most negatively perceived country was Iran, with only 15 percent of respondents giving it a positive rating. Pakistan and North Korea also received low ratings...................(continues).............."

History aside, there's very little to dislike about the Germans. It's a great nation where education, science, and technology are an integral part of the culture. Even during its darkest times, some of the most important discoveries came out of there.

When do they come out with the Most Likely to Succeed country as well as the coveted Best Looking country? Class Clown country should be hotly contested as well.

Is this because he's an unreasonable neo-con, or because he looks like a hot, blonde woman?

12 years of evil is no reason to hate a country. I agree with you, Germany is a fantastic country and the world has been blessed with the innovations and music(not kraftwerk).

Jew gotta be kidding me.

You must admit though, the Germans were way ahead of the curve in population control.

Germany deserves snaps for the beer.

But it's a BBC poll, so the USA had no shot. :tothehand:

America had a robust eugenics program while Nazi Germany was gassing Jews, Catholics, Gypsys and gays.

Not political, but is anyone else watching the Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Dortmund? It's one of the best soccer matches I've seen in a while (although this year's FA Cup was pretty good too). Great goalkeeping, shot selections, dribbling, goals, defense, and atmosphere. Even if you hate soccer, this game pretty much encompasses why people around the world love the game.

Damn the Germans know how to play the sport.

edit: Bayern Munich goes up 2-1 at the 90th minute. And wins.

I'm German on both sides, but I do NOT like Germany. My second language is French, and I'd MUCH rather read about the British Navy (particularly if it's set during the Napoleonic War era) than anything even remotely Germanic....

What is your reason, Fräulein?

To each their own but at least give a reason. I don't care for African history, mostly because its boring and there is nothing worthwhile to study, IMO. Germany has contributed so much to the world and has such a rich and interesting culture and heritage.

Bayern is fun to watch, but I can't get over the fact that I feel like I'm cheering for the Yankees. They truly were dominant this year. Gotzke could have changed the game and can't help but feel like his injury was suspect.

That Goalie was a maniac during this game.

Can't really call Bayen Munich the Yankees of soccer. The Yanks were the Yanks because they spent so much more money than everyone else and bought all the players they could. Bayern doesn't do that any more than a whole handful of teams: Barca, Real, Man U, Man City, Chelsea, PSG, Inter, AC, Juve, just to name a few, all do the same thing and often spend even more than Bayern does. The Yanks were a lone team doing that - Bayern is one of many so the comparison doesn't really work.
