Katz went on to tell the court that Rivas was the alleged getaway driver in the crime and waited in the car around the corner while Estrada and his brother approached the victim.

"The victim was in town visiting a family member and was standing outside a residence when he was approached by two males," Katz said. "They demanded his wallet, when he didn’t comply, they demanded his wallet again. It was at that point that they brandished a weapon and (the victim), himself a gun owner, took out his own .45-caliber weapon. Refusing to be a victim, he fired and struck one of the assailants in the neck."

After running from the scene, Katz said the Estrada brothers ran back to the getaway car and Rivas drove to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where they were later arrested.

LOGANVILLE, Ga. — A Georgia mother hid her two 9-year-old twins and shot an intruder, Paul Ali Slater, several times during a home invasion on Friday, according to multiple media reports.

The Loganville mother said she didn’t initially answer when someone knocked on her door around 1 p.m. Friday. When the visitor began repeatedly ringing the doorbell, she called her husband at work, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

He then dialed 911 and his 37-year-old wife gathered their 9-year-old twins and hid them in a crawlspace inside the home.

According to the report, the intruder then forced his way into the home and started “rummaging” through the family’s belongings.

When the suspect went into the closet where the family was hiding ,the woman fired six bullets at the suspect, five of which hit alleged suspect Paul Ali Slater in the face and neck area.

“He opens the closet door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver,” Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The woman fled to a neighbor’s home with her children. The woman and her two children were not injured.

The injured intruder stumbled out of the home and attempted to flee in his car. However, he crashed into a wooded area and collapsed in a neighbor’s driveway, according to WSB-TV.

The suspect was arrested at the scene. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive.

The victim’s husband said he’s proud of his wife.

“My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as responsible, prepared gun owner,” Donnie Herman told WSB-TV.

Tammy Takach of Steubenville was sleeping Thursday morning when a noise in her home woke her up. She told WPXI-TV she grabbed her gun and went downstairs to find an intruder who’d entered through a window holding an air conditioning unit. He begged her not to call the police.

“He stood up and put his hands up,” Takach told WTOV-TV. “He said, ‘I’m just going to go. I’m sorry,’ and

I said, ‘The only place you’re going to go is jail, and if you move, you’re gonna go to the morgue, because I’m going to blow your f-ing head off.”

Takach kept the gun aimed at him the entire time until police arrived. Upstairs, Takach’s son was still asleep, completely unaware of what was happening.

Ryan Geary, 23, was arraigned Friday on charges of burglary and possessing criminal tools. If convicted, he could face up to nine years in prison.

Takach’s husband, Anson, said the family owns multiple firearms but that it was the first time his wife ever had to use one in a situation like that.

“We go to the range as much as we can. We own a lot of firearms,” Anson Takach told WTOV. “I’ve had
extensive training with firearms, so I teach her and my son how to be responsible and to remain calm in situations like that.”

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - Orangeburg County sheriff's deputies say a homeowner shot and killed a man who broke into a home.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says 21-year-old DeShawn Randolph used a shovel to break a back window of a home near Orangeburg around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies say the homeowner grabbed a gun and shot down the hallway. Randolph was struck and died from his wounds.

An autopsy was planned Tuesday.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner.

FL:Walnut Hill Homeowner Shoots Burglar

About 4 p.m., the resident of the 3900 block of Rockaway Creek Road reported a burglary in progress at his home. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said he arrived home to find two intruders inside of the residence.

The homeowner held the suspects at gunpoint while he called the Sheriff’s Office. As he was speaking with dispatchers, one of the suspects, identified at 33-year old Ricky Dewayne Taylor, lunged toward him. The homeowner fired a .38 caliber revolver, striking Taylor in the leg. Taylor was alert and conscious when he was transferred to LifeFlight to be airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. His injuries did not appear life threatening.

The female suspect, identified as 35-year old Teresa Dianne Sunday, received a minor injury on her face from a ricochet; she was taken into custody at the scene by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Diana Richter woke up to a man popping off the screen to her bedroom window. She opened fire toward him with a gun after she shouted warnings at him several times. KDRV-TV reports that 36-year-old Corey Thompson fired a warning shot from his AR-15 rifle at 40-year-old Jonathon Kinsella after he tried to break into Thompson’s house through the back door.

Brooklyn Boy, 9, Grabs Gun from Armed Home Invaders, Fires Shots: Police

A 9-year-old boy fought back against two robbers who broke into his family's home in Brooklyn Monday, slamming a bedroom door against one suspect's arm so hard that the loaded gun he was holding fell to the floor, police said.

The boy then picked up the weapon and fired shots, scaring off the would-be robbers.

The robbers entered the house on 80th Street in Canarsie at about 6 p.m. and ordered two teenagers inside to get on the floor, according to police.

The only other person in the house was the boy, who was upstairs.

When one of the suspects ran upstairs and tried to get into a second-floor bedroom, the 9-year-old boy slammed the door on the suspect's arm, causing him to drop the gun.

The boy picked up the gun and fired it at the suspect, according to police. No one was hit, but the home invaders quickly ran out of the house.

Police are searching for the suspects. The boy and the teenagers are said to be OK.
