SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — A San Bernardino man has shot and critically wounded a man he says tried to attack him after breaking into a home.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise says it happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say an intruder broke into a home that was being renovated on West Mill Street. A woman who lives in a rear house went to check on the property and was confronted by the intruder.

She began to scream and the man grabbed her. Police say the woman’s father came to her aid and shot when the man tried to attack him.

Thirty-five-year-old Leonard Guerra of San Bernardino was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition and booked on suspicion of burglary and false imprisonment.

“Guerra attempted to attack the father, at which time Guerra was shot once by the father,” Sgt. Travis Walker said in a written statement.

Bottom line, he’s really lucky to be alive.

Business Owner Pulls Own Gun, Kills Robber In Newark
NBC New York ^

A business owner shot and killed a robber Monday in Newark.

Around 3:20 p.m., the suspect walked into an unidentified business in the 500 block of Central Avenue in Newark with a loaded gun and a backpack, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and Newark police.

The suspect announced a robbery, and ordered the owner to fill the backpack with money and gold. The suspect said he would shoot the owner’s family members if the owner did not comply, authorities said.

But the owner fought back. He pulled his own gun, and shot the suspect.

The suspect was taken to University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

WELLFORD, S.C. —One person is dead after two armed men broke into a home in Wellford Tuesday night, and the homeowner fired on them, according to Spartanburg County sheriff's deputies.

A woman who lived on Tanglewood Road in Wellford called 911 just after 11:30 p.m., deputies said. The woman reported a burglary in progress at the duplex where she and her husband live, according to Sgt. Rick Kwasniewski.

In an incident report, the woman told deputies she was on the couch playing with her iPad and listening to music through headphones and watching television when she felt something cold and metallic against her head. When she turned to see what was going on, she saw a male holding a gun to her head, according to the report. She started yelling and her husband came out of the bedroom.

Deputies said her husband then got into a physical altercation with one of the men, who dropped his handgun and ran to the back door, where the second man was standing. The second man then fired one shot at the husband, according to deputies, the report said. The husband then picked up the dropped handgun and returned fire, deputies said.

By the time deputies arrived, they found a man dead and lying face-down in the driveway of the home, Kwasniewski said. Deputies said the man had been shot in the face.

The other man ran off, according to deputies.

Deputies searched through the night for the second man, even bringing in K-9 officers to assist in the search, but found nothing, Kwasniewski said.

Deputies don't know if there was any previous connection between the two men involved in this incident and the homeowners.

The home was taped off as a crime scene, and investigators remained there through the night gathering evidence and processing the scene, Kwasniewski said.

The homeowners were taken to the Sheriff's Office in Spartanburg for more questioning

WATCH: Man killed when he tries robbing sneaker fans waiting for $180 Lebron shoes

From ASSOCIATED PRESS Last Updated: 4:14 PM, June 24, 2013 Posted: 4:06 PM, June 24, 2013

ATLANTA — Police say an armed man trying to rob customers outside an Atlanta shoe store was fatally shot by one of the patrons waiting in line to buy sneakers.

WSB-TV reports the shooting happened Saturday morning in the city's Little Five Points neighborhood, where people lined up outside Wish Clothing to buy new $180 sneakers endorsed by Miami Heat star LeBron James.

Witnesses told police a man armed with a gun tried to rob people standing outside the store. But one of the customers drew his own handgun and shot the robber. Police say the suspect ran just a few yards before he fell dead.

Atlanta police officer John Chafee says the shooter won't be charged because investigators determined he fired in self-defense.

A citizen pulled a gun and nabbed one of two men who held up a Mount Pleasant gas station Wednesday night, according to police.

Here’s what happened, according to Mount Pleasant Police Maj. Stan Gragg.

About 7:19 p.m., two men with rags covering their faces walked into the Kangaroo store at the BP station at U.S. Highway 17 and S.C. Highway 41. They showed a gun to a clerk, took an undisclosed amount of money and fired a shot as they left the store.

A passerby with a gun saw what was happening and challenged the two at gunpoint. One man got away, and the other gave up and was arrested when police arrived.

OH:Homeowner shoots armed suspect in east side home invasion
19actionnews.com ^ | 16 July, 2013 | NA

Police were called to a home on Pawnee Avenue off of East 185th Street just after 9 a.m.
19 Action News has learned a woman was leaving with her two children when one child noticed the armed suspects and said, "Mommy, he has a gun."

The armed suspects demanded the woman hand over her purse and cell phone.
The woman's fiance, who was inside the home, saw the armed suspects with his family, pulled out his own gun and opened fire through the window.

"I see a man in a grey hoodie, dickies and a white little mask covering half his face waving a pistol. At your loved ones," said fiance Johnny Bridges.

Authorities say a Houston-area man turned the tables on two bank robbery suspects who had abducted him and his wife by pulling a gun on the unsuspecting duo and shooting them both, killing one of them.

The suspects apparently knew that the woman worked at the First National Bank of Eagle Lake in Columbus, and they abducted her and her husband at gunpoint at their residence north of the city on Thursday and drove them back to the bank, Columbus County Sheriff's Sgt. Andrew Weido told Houston television station KHOU.

The suspects forced the woman to taken an undisclosed amount of money from the bank, then forced the husband to drive them in his truck down Highway 71, Weido said. It was then that the husband grabbed a gun that was in the truck and fired at the suspects, he said.

Officers who responded to a 911 call found both suspects lying on the ground near the truck suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to different hospitals, where one of them was pronounced dead. The other suspect remained hospitalized in critical condition Friday. Columbus County authorities didn't respond to calls for comment Saturday.
