Confederations Cup: Spain-10, Tahiti-0

Post by ∞∞∞ »

I'm not really following the Confederations Cup, but I saw that Tahiti is playing Spain today after losing to Nigeria 6-1 in their first game. Spain is putting in their 2nd team (which is still way better than most starting teams in the world), but this game should be fun to watch if you're into massacres. This is literally just a bunch of amateurs vs. the World Cup Champions...but damn what an experience for those Tahitians.

It's on ESPN @ 3pm ECBT.

Commentator just said that most of the Tahitian players get paid in groceries. Sweet deal.

Considering the score is still 1-0 in the 27th minute, I'm impressed so far.

So sad about Tahiti being overpowered in such a big event with only 8 countries but apparently each confederation gets a representative in the Confederations Cup. Since Australia is no longer in the OFC and New Zealand who did well in the last WC but did not win the latest OFC Cup (or something like that), Tahiti gets to represent since they won.

Interestingly enough, the OFC does not get an automatic invite to the World Cup. Their winner plays a home and home against the 4th place CONCACAF team for the right to advance to the World Cup.

8-0 with 25 minutes left.

I'll just stop updating the score and do it at the end.

Yeah, I think New Zealand lost in the semis to New Caledonia. Maybe they didn't do that Mauri war dance thing before that game, just assumed they'd coast to victory.

You can appreciate the OFC's place in the pecking order of things by them being paired up with the 4th place CONCACAF thing. What could be even more so would be if Mexico continues to play to a draw in their qualifying matches and they come out as the 4th place team.

10-0 final. Largest margin of victory ever at a major FIFA tournament.
