FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
the pillars is what bothers me the most. Maybe they should add private boxes and make another way to get to those sections.

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
Im not feeling the new "start from scratch" stadium. Why not keep the old sideline stands, Update the tiny pressbox and lower the field and/or enclose the endzones instead? Ive played there [::cough::when we beat #1 seed SIU in the playoffs::cough::] and it was alright, and doesnt need to be totaly demolished.skinny_uncle wrote:SIU
Salukiway is under way at SIU with a new football stadium being built to replace 70 year old McAndrew Stadium. It is supposed to in operation by 2010. Major renovations are planned for the Arena (home of the basketball programs).

It's true, I don't usually show up too much in the offseason. New duties on the job may restrict my appearances during the season more so than in the past. Hopefully, others will step up to fill any void that leaves.dbackjon wrote:A skinny uncle sighting!! woo hoo!!skinny_uncle wrote:SIU

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
McAndrew is 70 years old and rusting out. Looking underneath the stands, one wonders how long it would be until a collapse. It needs to be replaced before it becomes a safety issue. Construction is underway at this point.BlackFalkin wrote:Im not feeling the new "start from scratch" stadium. Constructions costs are lower at this point partly because of the competitiveness of the bidding in a recession. Waiting any longer would only increase the cost of the project.

New pics. The structure is now above the original stadium height.

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?

quick shot of Mc Andrews in carbondale. you can see "whats holding the stadium up". Why not spend one fourth of the budget and make the stadium structure sound. another quarter on repaving the stadium concrete & new aluminum benches and some chairback seats. And the remaining 50% on endzone seating, new locker room, updated pressbox?
I understand the construction has already take place but in my opinion this is a better way to spend that large amount of money **AND** the salukis will have a better stadium as a result.

The Mac is 70 years old. Fixing it up and bringing everything up to code would cost almost as much as building a new one.BlackFalkin wrote:

That out of date aerial shot looks pretty good. Newer and closer shots reveal problems.BlackFalkin wrote:

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
Lamar University will be spending almost $30 million on renovations to their football stadium, constructing a new athletic complex, and building a new soccer field with a field house for both soccer and softball. Because of the bond market they are a little behind schedule but they should start in late May. They have already spend $1.5 million on renovating the press box and the rest of the stadium will get a complete makeover before Lamar starts playing football in 2010.
The new 44,000 sf athletic complex will sit on the south end of the stadium:

The stadium will be renamed Provost-Umphrey Stadium thanks to a $5 million donation from Walter Umphrey and the law firm of Provost-Umphrey:

An anonymous donated $700,000 for the new field turf and the naming of the field:

A total of about $7.5 million was raised for these renovations, and along with a new student fee, football is back at Lamar after 20 years.

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?

YSU is putting in brand new chairback seats where the current ones are housed right now. YSU is also adding a second scoreboard to the north end of the stadium. The current one on the south end is pretty hard to see for some in the big stands during daytime games. This new scoreboard will be nothing special, just a nice compliment to a top notch facility.
Remember, YSU Stambaugh Stadium was #2 on the ChampionshipSubdivision.com Stadium Rankings in 2006, behind the great Montana Stadium, whatever it is called

Re: FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS?
Field turf at the dome is going to cost upwards of 2 million dollars because the Dome needs a different kind of turf. At Dacotah, NDSU could just lay the turf down and forget about it, which meant the new turf ran about $3-400,000. At the Dome, the turf needs to be removable since the movable bleachers in the south endzone can't clear the height of the field turf plus whatever cover is needed to protect the turf.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:why do we have a field turf practice field... why not install it in the DOME???FargoBison wrote:A dream of mplsbison came true today....
