Spain vs. Brazil

Post by ∞∞∞ »

Is anyone else watching this soccer game (first time in 14 years these two have met)? It's halftime and Brazil is pretty much playing out of its mind...two great goals and an AMAZING defensive clear.

Brazil is up 2-0 against the World Champs with 45 to go.

I thought it was other way around somewhere Pele is smiling listening to ESPN radio and they are giving updates.

Up 3-0 now with 40 minutes to go.

edit: And Spain misses on a PK. Just one of those days.

Gotta be a sucky day to be a fan of ESP sports. The boys soccer team loses to the always amazing Brazil squad, and the girls football team gets whitewashed by Finland.

Not a good day at all for Spanish sports fans....

Well, that's STILL not as bad as the day their so-called Armada turned tail and ran, leaving the French high and dry against the British....

That is surprising since they at one time had a naval fleet second to no one on European soil.

Brazilian keeper stepped up big time with some good saves to preserve the shutout and Spain of course missed a PK. Interestingly enough, Brazil scored in the first 3 minutes of each half and the last 5 minutes of the 1st half. You cannot allow at those times. That kills all momentum that you want to build.

Buffon was huge in goal for the Italians in the 3rd place game as well saving a few PKs and some other shots during the match against Uruguay

Trip in the far corner of the box. Little bit of a dive but the defender's leg did clip the ankle or thereabouts of the Spanish player. Stupid play by the defender considering the situation in a non-goal scoring play. It was 3-0 at the time with not much time remaining so a goal there would not have done much except get rid of the shutout.

The PK was shot wide.

That game may have killed the ratings for the 2014 World Cup, which will now be referred to as the Brazil Invitational. Seriously, no one will beat Brazil in Brazil, and this is from someone that knows next to nothing about soccer.  :coffee: :coffee:

Why would that kill the ratings? Did the NBA ratings suffer when the Bulls were pretty much unbeatable during the end of the Jordan years? People like to watch greatness in sport, and getting to watch a great Brazilian side in soccer move towards an inevitable World Cup win should be something akin to that. Besides, ratings in the US should be pretty good - don't have to worry about time zone issues this time around.

24 million people in the US watched Spain/Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup final on a Sunday afternoon. We have slightly fewer posts than that right now in this thread, give or take 24 million posts that is. :thumb:

Oh, for comparison, the NBA Game 7 this year averaged 26 million viewers. The Stanley Cup finals were in the 8 million range.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the Confederation Cup. Brazil won it in 2009... and the US finished second. Didn't mean much at the World Cup.

Brazil will be tough to beat in their country.... and they bitchslapped Spain. But, Munich and Dortmund already showed Spain that their dominance is over. Germany wasn't even at the Confederation Cup.

Brazil winning next year is far from a foregone conclusion.
