that's because white people aren't nearly effected by racism as much as black people. That's the reason they did that. Black intellectia has a closer connection to criticism of racism than white intellectia because discrimination and racism is more intwined with the experience of being black than being white.

Police stop people who are committing more crimes than people who are committing less crimes. Employers hire people with the best education, best resume, most experience, etc. I don't doubt that this is interfered with to some degree by racism or discrimination, but nowhere near to the extent you have in your mind.

The clear answer is that it is racist. It's a descriptive term of one's race, used in a derogatory way. Very simple, very easy.

My position put simply is yes it is prejudiced, but racism is more than just prejudice. Racism is prejudice + power. And white people have all the power.

So, every comment that's racially insensitive is prejudiced, but not necessarily racist. follow? I'll admit I was inconsistent right there but I only made the concession because people focus more on the question of whether or not it's racist (ie hateful, and so on) and I'm trying to communicate a broader point and I don't want to be stuck on that one little tidbit which is basically and etymological miscommunication.

Police stop people who are committing more crimes than people who are committing less crimes. Employers higher people with the best education, best resume, most experience, etc. I don't doubt that this is interfered with to some degree by racism or discrimination, but nowhere near to the extent you have in your mind.

When it comes to things like drug arrests, the police don't come to white neighborhoods, when studies have shown white people are more likely to use drugs. New York's stop and frisk law is another instance of racism as people of color are stopped 8 times more likely than white people. The thing about law enforcement is that neighborhoods that have police patrolling them are more likely to get arrests than ones that don't.

As for racism and discrimination in employment, white felons are twice as likely to get a callback for a job than white non-felons, so there is that stat among others. the problems with the black community aren't exclusively the white man putting them down, but a lot of their problems are directly and indirectly contributed to stuff such as racism.

That's why affirmative action is a necessity to combat those tendencies.

I responded to this notion in my previous post but I would warn against being selective in your criticism as some of those things are not apparent in exclusively the black community, and we wouldn't want to be selective.

Poverty can accelerate the problems listed. Poverty is a problem of the black community which can be attributed to lack of capital, lack of employment, and other things that the community isn't directly responsible for.
