I didn't follow the trial, so I'm not sure what to think about this. Looking back to when the case first hit the streets, though, I could see arguments both ways on this. On the one hand, the defendant seems to be a two-bit weasel who tried to use a poorly worded law to justify going out and offing someone. On the other hand, there seems to be evidence that the victim was a thug who had SOMETHING of a comeuppance due, though certainly nothing of this sort.

The whole case just seems to be a can of worms for the race baiters of the world, either way. Of course, I'm the guy who still thinks Simpson is innocent.

There's precedent for that, too. Jeff Gillooly changed his name to Jeff Stone in the wake of the Nancy Kerrigan beating, making life hard for other Jeff Stones around the country.

How many wannabe punks will this make think twice about jumping someone? Now they know they might get shot and, hopefully, their family will be too embarrassed to say stupid things, such as, "why did my son's victim get set free for simply defending himself"?
