Not really...maybe the MWC if you want to call them mid-major.

The MVC had 3 teams within 5 points of beating Louisville this year...all three times Louisville was bailed out by terrible jump ball/foul calls going in favor of Louisville.

The MVC had a final four team - that didn't win the conference regular season or tournament title.

Since 2006 the MVC has seen S16s from UNI, SIU, Bradley, and WSU (as well as multiple round of 32 apperances from Creighton).

The MVC finished 9th in RPI this past season (less than .01 points behind the vaunted SEC) and well ahead of the WCC (who finished 10th) in RPI standards. The Horizon wasn't within the same contenent as the MVC in RPI standings

Let's go back through the RPI finishes by league since 2003-2004 shall we?

MVC:
2013 - 9
2012 - 8
2011 - 12
2010 - 9
2009 - 9
2008 - 6
2007 - 6
2006 - 8
2005 - 8
2004 - 11
Average - 8

WCC
2013 - 10
2012 - 11
2011 - 14
2010 - 13
2009 - 15
2008 -14
2007 - 12
2006 - 7
2005 - 12
2004 - 12
Avg - 12

Horizon
2013 - 12
2012 - 14
2011 - 11
2010 - 14
2009 - 12
2008 - 12
2007 - 15
2006 - 20
2005 - 15
2004 - 15
Avg - 14

Yeah, tell me again how they are on the same playing field as the MVC? The MVC finished outside of the top 10 as many times in the last decade as those two conference finished IN the top 10 COMBINED.

Yeah...anyone else shocked dal has no idea what he's talking about?

It all comes down to how you define mid-major. The MWC and A-10 could be considered mid-major and have been at the same level or slightly above the MVC depending on the year. The MVC has been consistently good while most other conferences have up and down years. The WCC is strong at the top (Gonzaga and St. Marys but drops after that where the MVC, MWC are stronger throughout. The CAA was a pretty good conference but losing Mason, ODU and VCU hurts.

the MWC and A10 have never been classified as a mid major because they have fought that title and refused to participate in mid major events.

The CAA prior to the last season or two is as close as any mid major get gets, and the MVC was still on average 3 spots ahead of them in rpi rankings over the same time

I don't see how they can deny this is not as if they have the status of the ACC-SEC-Big 10!!!

Go on the message board for any single school in the MWC, A10, or even former CUSA schools and call them mid-major...watch the reaction that you get.

They refused to participate in Bracket Busters (which was the mid-major event) and be associated with mid-major conferences in any way.

The SEC isn't even close to the same level as the Big 10 or ACC....It's not even at the level of the B12.

Right now the SEC is down but I'am talking about historical reputation only the ACC and Big 10 or PAC 12 are in the same neighborhood as the SEC.The MVC and A-10 are not even close.

I never said they were...

Also, your idea of what type of program fits into the major categories is flawed...very flawed.

I'm willing to bet you see the SoCon, MEAC, MAAC, Southland, etc... as mid major conferences as well?

Wrong.

They are low majors. The MVC is closer to the high major label than the affore mentioned conferences are being mid-majors.

You want how the conference landscape really sits with people who follow college ball? Here it is (based on last years conference alignment, as I'm not sure how it will shake out moving forward)

High Major
ACC
B10
B12
Big East
SEC
Pac 12 (could easily fall to next level as they haven't been very good lately)

next level...not high major, not mid major...kind of a low high major/high mid major. There is a reason these schools have tried to do everything to separate themselves from the conferences in the next category
A10
MWC
MVC
CUSA - though trending downward

True Mid Major
CAA (though trending downard)
West Coast (only due to Gonzaga and St Mary's the rest of the conference sucks..though BYU has the name due to football)
Horizon
IVY
MAC
Summit - seems to bounce from being a low major to mid major in quality.

Low Major
The rest

I never said the So Con,Southland,MEAC,SWAC,MAAC were high mid major I know where those leagues stand in terms of talent. The MVC,A-10 are high mid major leagues but as stated before they are not on the level of the big boys they are trying to be something they are not it's like the old axiom "Keeping up with The Joneses".

No one has ever said they were on the same level of the ACC....

However, the A10 and MWC have never been considered mid major. If we are going strictly High Major, Mid Major, Low Major they probably fit into the mid major category - but they have never been labeled as such.

The MVC doesn't have to pretend to deserve more respect than they get. The record speaks for itself as far as "mid majors" go with S16's belonging to UNI, WSUx2, SIU, and Bradley in the last decade and a final 4 run with Louisville; as well as basically owning the horrible event that was the bracket busters, more or less spliting the MWC/MVC challenge every year, and holding their own against the "big boy" teams we played OOC.

We already know we are disrespected in the MVC...you don't have to further that thought

I never said they were on the level of the ACC or SEC but they want to be and they are not.Why are they ashamed of hearing the term mid major applied to their conference????

They would fish bottom half of the mvc, mwc, a10, and cusa yearly.

Congrats on winning in the Big West conference in the past...of the WCC which had two respectable teams and a much of also runs

Based on what?

Only once after 1949 did they have more than 7 wins (8 in 1972)

Only 7 winning seasons between 1960 and when the program was cut in 96

Only twice in history won more than 8 games...1947 and 1949

26 seasons with a winning record

44 seasons of .500 or worse football played

25 times they won 4 games or less....yeah, almost as many years at 4 wins or less as seasons over .500

Program was under .500 all time (.463) and outscored by 875 points

Whatever reputation they had, it wasn't being a good program.

Also, before SH jumps in to defend that craptastic program he was the 9th string towel boy for out of sympathy

Never said it was memorable just saying I remember their football program as the forerunner of the Run-n-Shoot in the 40s.

Calm down, you guys. BOTH of you are correct about UOP football. The golden era of the late '40s-early '50s coincided with the tail end of the Stagg/leBaron era. One year ended with UOP ranked as high as #10 in the country. There wasn't much to brag about after that, though UOP DID produce a world-class running back (Dick Bass) and a Super Bowl winning lineman (Greg Bishop), not to mention some outstanding NFL coaches (Tom Flores, Hue Jackson, Pete Carroll, and John Fassel to name a few). There WERE some notable upsets over the years as well, but like Sac State after their two recent Pac-12 wins, the Tigers p!$$ed the rest of the season down their legs.

UOP IS also the only program I know of that played in TWO bowl games in one season, one of which was on New Year's Day. I think it was 1948, but I can't verify that because the Data Warehouse has picked up some viruses. Of course, the NCAA for whatever reason doesn't recognize one of them. SMH.
