I like Chris Davis :thumb:
The Orioles first baseman is on pace for 60 home runs. Even though Roger Maris' 61 was passed multiple times in the late ’90s and early ’00s, Davis still considers the former Yankees outfielder the single-season champ.

"I do and the reason being, he was the last guy to do it clean,” Davis told ESPN’s "Mike and Mike." "There’s a lot of things that have been said about the guys who have come after him and have achieved the record. But I think as far as the fans are concerned, they still view Maris as being the all-time home run record (holder), and I think you have to.

"There’s no doubt that Barry (Bonds) and Mark (McGwire) and any of those guys had ridiculous seasons and had some great years, but I think when you get to the root of the record, I still think it’s Roger Maris’."

Shit. Now I kind of hope he does it.

30 hr's before All-Star break Link

There have been many with 30+ at All-Star break, Jackson, McGwire, Bonds and Davis are the only ones with more than 35 HR's at All-Star Break.

BALTIMORE -- It's safe to say the media covering the Baltimore Orioles was more concerned about Chris Davis' home-run dry spell than the slugger himself.

After Davis hit his major league-leading 38th homer to give the Orioles a 4-3 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, someone asked him how happy he was to end a 10-game, long ball drought.

"Oh, I'm so happy," he said, quite sarcastically. "I can go home and sleep tonight. Just eat food again. I don't have to wake up every three hours and cry."

Davis came in with a .205 batting average since the All-Star break and was without a homer since July 14. The sixth-inning drive off Lucas Harrell (5-11) was his first extra-base hit in seven games and gave Baltimore its first lead.
The All-Star Break/Home Run Derby Curse strikes again.... I'm going to put the over/under at 53.

Z too...

If he gets to 53 but his average dips to .240 Z will want to pay him 800 million per year

Which would mean he'd have to go 24 for 203 to finish the year. I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen.

And conversely, if he never hit another homerun but batted .320 and drove in 75 runs, you'd want to pay him Joe Mauer money. :dunce: :dunce:

You wish Mauer's batting average was as low as .320....his career average is higher than that.

He's won 3 gold gloves, 4 silver sluggers, 6 time all star, top 8 in MVP voting 4 times....plus all of the off field value he brings to the Twins...

Yeah, he's worth it.

If only we had a GM who was willing to spend money on other players the last half decade or so.

Should be interesting to see if Cabrera can hold off Davis and win his second Triple Crown in a row.

Oh, sweet fucking Jesus. His last 4 years have been .327, .287, .319, and .326 this year. That's a batting average of .31765 over his last 1700+ AB's. In fact, take out his steroid-infused MVP season and his career BA is .31726

Take it to the Mauer Memorial Thread, loser. :tothehand:

Really? You'd be happy with 46 after he had 38 at the all-star break? If he only hits 8 HR's post-ASB, the Orioles won't be sniffing a playoff berth.

52 so far, needs 9 over the weekend to time the AL record, that may still consider the MLB record.

Nice season for Davis.
