The one in Billings is right outside my office, so I will post our webcam tomorrow.

The weather is supposed to 30-39 and snowing, so I don't know how the turnout will be.

Ditto...my email list (184 elected officials) goes out tonight, along with a handful of friends I know doing the same...for a total of over a thousand emails going out to politicians overnight. Teabag "distribution" happens in the morning.

Plus, we just received the sample ballots for CA's May 19th Special Election, principally to vote on 5 propositions...one which prevents the Legislature and Governor from receiving pay raises during periods when the state has a budget deficit, and a few others to prevent the Legislature from robbing voter mandated distributions to other regionally managed health and community service programs.
It's turned into a "turf war" out here with government agencies battling each other through the initiative process in an attempt to survive.

From my viewpoint, and I honestly believe this, the best course of action in CA is to vote everyone out, then systematically begin cancelling or allowing to expire all service and labor contracts, renegotiating every contract, and if the necessary "services or entity" providers refuse to renegotiate, then the program is eliminated and either privatized for lesser cost, or the govt. program is eliminated all together. If the program is truly a needed service, then those who use the service can seek it's re-enactment through the political process or by agreeing to pay more for that service so the govt. is no longer acting in a welfare capacity.

I'm going - in a three piece suit, slicked back hair and my sign "GREED IS GOOD" or "I'm Gordon Gecko, and I approved this 'protest'" lol The other option is showing up with a "I make 35,000/year and my taxes went down thanks to Obama... but fuck him anyway because I'm retarded douchebag who can't do math"

the hilarity of this "grassroots" nonsense is a hard to overstate... it's right-wing astroturf... concocted by DCI (the "teabag" website was already prepped before Santelli's staged "meltdown")...

what's funny is watching the nasty rightwing base show up at these things... the disturbing "mccain rally when they go nasty" element to all of this.

Indeed - the masses are being played again by the moneyed elite. When will the sheeple that listen to Hannity/Rush/Beck realize that they are not on THEIR side - but they are pawns keeping the status quo intact.

Water produces hard goods and jobs that give back to the economy, unlike the 1,700 person DMV call centers (located in So Cal) created by the legislature in the past two years whose sole job is to verify that every vehicle registered in CA has valid insurance 365/24/7, and any policy lapses triggers automatic registration suspension which requires the vehicle owner to pay a DMV penalty to reinstate their registration. BTW, suspension notifications ARE NOT BEING MAILED TO THE OWNERS, so in most cases, the first time the owner's learn of the suspension is when they get socked with huge annual registration renewal bill with the penalty tacked on.

While a seemingly "good idea" to ensure every vehicle is insured...the purpose of the bill, to ensure every vehicle is insured is missing the operative mechanism, notifying owners immediately upon insurance lapsing. This was simply a vulgar SEIU (govt. workers)/insurance industry bill to line their pockets (avg. Californian pays OVER 8% of Gross Wages on personal auto insurance...this figure doesn't include the amortization of commercial auto insurance premiums. In effect, the auto insurance industry has become the legitimized government enforced welfare for underwriters, trial lawyers and the health care industry).

This is just another example of how CA generates more "tax" revenue to create more government jobs. The liberal's financial mismangement has broken the back of California's industries. The tax & spend philosophy detracts from our economy and sucks the blood from GDP. If not fixed immediately, California will have no choice but to file for bankruptcy in the next year or two.

dback...you're benign side remark about "water" merely belies your misunderstanding the seriousness of the situation.

Vote Everyone Out. Take our country back.

Should I be offended by these posts? I don't listen to Hannity/Rush/Beck but I do believe in the capitalism and the free market (with limited regulation). I can make a pretty cogent argument that in most cases a dollar kept in the private sector will be more effective than a dollar taken by the government because it will be reinvested in companies that create jobs and opportunities for other people while a much larger percentage of the government dollar will be wasted on bureaucratic overhead (can you say byzantine). Now you might not agree with my arguments but don't question my mental ability just because I don't agree with you. I've made up my mind based on my assessment of the information not because of what I've been spoon fed. 8-)

I think I have finally learned to live with smack being the most prominent discourse on message boards. It is nice when occasionally a discussion does happen. :)

Now, I am not going because the main speakers in Greenville are republican office holders and a radio personality that I simply can't stomach :(

I'm calling retarded the people who bitch about "my taxes going up" when unless they make more than 250k/year their taxes didnt go up, and if they make under 100k (IIRC the amount) they actually went down... so what they are really "protesting" is wealthy people paying the same tax they paid in 1999. most of your teabaggers don't see it that way... an that is either stupidity or being duped.

Maybe they are protesting the concept. Some people have principles that are not tied to their own pocketbook. :D

Or maybe they realize that under the current budget, their taxes WILL go up. there is no choice.

My question for the majority of the teabaggers: What took you so long? Where have you been the past 8 years when Bush was pushing through record spending and deficits?

It is a good question. Could be a lot of things from partisanship to simple not focusing when they should have. But it could be that the possibility of doubling a deficit in 8 years that was already doubled by Bush in 8 years woke a few people up. :?

Unfortunately, they are going about this the wrong way. Following the ones that took them to defeat in 2008/created this mess in the first place will get them no-where.

TTBF, from my viewpoint, this has little to do with personal taxes. Those who assume political position principally due to their PIT rates (or changes to) aren't true conservatives. This is about big government. Taking money from taxpayers to create more government, which puts little back into the economy. A robust growing economy benefits all; a robust growing government diminishes all.

We've been telling Bush to stop spending. Difference is now under Obama, the gluttoness tax and spend activity has grown exponentially, with bills being written in dark rooms, and passed before anyone has a chance to even read them.

It's madness.

Would you have said the same thing about the people that remained in the democratic party following Carter's administration? Or after the republicans took control of congress in the early 90s. Come on. The party in power typically abuses their power and many times forgets the people that put them there. It has happened sadly again and again in American politics.

We are a two party system. Would I like for that to change? yes. But that change will occur over a long period of time if at all. you follow the group that is closest to your belifs and many of us swallow hard at the portions of the party we don't like. The alternative is to wake up 20 years from now with policies in place that are impossible to change because they are imbedded.
