MLB has suspended Josh Beckett for 6 games because they say he intentionally threw a pitch at Bobby Abreau that resulted in benches clearing twice in Anaheim.
The incident occured because the umpire granted Abreau timeout when Beckett was already in his windup. I have seen many many wacky results of pitches being thrown when timeout is granted in the middle of a windup.
video of the pitch
Its ridiculous that MLB decided this was intentional.
And before any of you bitches here try claiming Beckett wasnt in motion before time was called..
Also inaccruate screen shot Travis, you can clearly see the Ump is in the middle of calling time, as beckett is in the middle of his wind up. Not conclusive, sorry.

the ump just began to raise his arms to signal time out... as his arms begin to rise... beckett is in motion.

His arms are at his chest, beckett is just about off the ground. Tie goes to the Ump, and REGARDLESS, what the fuck does Bobby have to do with it? He should have thrown it at the ump if he was so pissed.

Are you!? what difference does it make, is my real question? He threw the ball, the ump made a decision, end of story.
Tell beckett to stop worrying about the guy on second so damn much and pitch the fucking ball if he doesn't want that to happen.
but its not... because the umpire didnt think Beckett threw intentionally at Abreau and thats why Beckett WASNT ejected.
“He took too long delivering the ball,” said crew chief Joe West. “Abreu called time, which is normal. Then Beckett, in the middle of throwing the ball, threw the ball. They should throw the ball, rather than risk an injury.
“Did he throw it up and in? Yeah. Do we believe he threw it at Abreu? No. Would we have warned him had both benches not emptied? Probably not, but because both benches emptied, we did issue a warning,” explained West.

Keep on speaking to the choir WR. Tell UNH how it is.

Well then that ump is blind, it was clearly intentional, and you can see that Beckett went towards Abreu aggressively, and he got his punishment. It's a 162 game season, he'll be back to suck like he always does. Kwitcherbelliakin

you got your words in, so you can shut the fuck up now.
oooooo...feisty today. You have been on the RAG for months now. I think it is time you grow the fuck up and quit acting like a little whiney bitch. You have been crying about this and that..then all of the sudden you are normal again but never for more than a day or two then right back to being a baby. ACT YOUR AGE, unless you are 6 you shouldn't be going around acting like a baby.

The extra rest will actually help Beckett in October...
prolly and they can actually work this perfectly with the day off this week where it wont matter at all.... But being 2-5 and all this was just the thing that was needed for me to blow a gasket.

It is early...
I don't think that the BoSox and Yankees will finish on the bottom of the NL East.

I feel your 2-5 pain, BTW...
Well I can guarantee they wont.... but I can hope the Yankees finish on the bottom of the AL East :p

2-5, they are as good as done. this season is over for them. Sorry, hate to break it to you, but the BoSox will not finish anywhere close to the WildCard this year.
As an ump, I am one so I can speak from experience, you are told not to grant time if the pitcher is already in motion, so if that is the case the ump is in the wrong. The ump is also told to make it as clear as possible that a TO is called as soon as it is granted, not a slow raising of the arms and what not. It needs to be yelled and arms waved instantly.
That doesn't, however, excuse Beckett for throwing at the batter if he did on purpose. Doesn't seem like it deserves a 6 game suspension though....but he should only miss one start.

thats the thing... Under these circumstances theres no way to know.... I watch a lot of baseball and I have seen some crazy things happen to balls thrown when the pitcher was mid motion on a timeout and crazy things like flying over a batters head do happen.
As I said on the other site... If this was Roger Clemens or Pedro Martinez fine suspend him cause they have history of intentionally throwing at heads... but Beckett doesnt have that same reputation... its not who he is... And even the umpire said he didnt feel Beckett did it intentionally.

I think it was intentional. Not so much because of the video or timing of the time out, but because Beckett was so belligerent afterwards. His actions made the situation worse, had he been contrite the benches may not have cleared.
