Nice little article from the USA Today
It's only the beginning of the season, like I've said many times already... the Phils started out pretty bad last year too. There's still 154 games left... but Beckett is still a fucking thugThe Red Sox's 2-6 record gives them their worst start since 1996. And, only the pitching-troubled Cleveland Indians have a worse record in the American League.
The other problems for the Red Sox? Lefty Jon Lester has a 9.00 ERA while giving up 18 hits in 11 innings in his first two starts. Mike Lowell, trying to return from a hip injury, is hitting .188, and has grounded into four double plays.
DH David Ortiz, who had a wrist injury last season, is hitting .172 with no home runs in 29 at-bats. Centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, whom the Red Sox expect to hit better knowing that he's going to play only one position and not move around the outfield, is at .194.
Right-fielder J.D. Drew has a .231 average and catcher Jason Varitek, 37, trying to bounce back from his worst offense season in 2008, is at .200. (Varitek spent the spring trying to calm down all the "moving parts," in his swing.)
And, shortstop Jed Lowrie, out with an injured left wrist, is going to see a hand specialist today.
