Broncos-Tide Odds
I'm not sure I agree with this. Sure, Denver in their current configuration would beat any college team big time. But I'm not sure that translates to 40+ points on Alabama. The idea for this article started off from the current -28 Denver is getting for their upcoming tilt with Jacksonville. One idea was to use the hypothetical spread in comparison to the actual Jax spread to gauge if the consensus best I-A team in the land could beat the consensus worst NFL team. While I agree that Denver would wipe the field against 'Bama, I'm not so sure that's the case if you swap the Horsies out for Jax....
The article did get something wrong. The oddsmaker they quoted said that an NFL team has never played a college team. Well, that's true if one is speaking of an organic team. But the NFL champions (even a bit into the Super Bowl era) played an annual game against a team of college all-stars, and the NFL champs didn't even win all the time (most of the time, to be sure, but decidedly NOT all the time).

Really?
The Jaguars would roll Alabama by 50 points.
This discussion is stupid.

Re: Broncos-Tide Odds
No CFB team would beat an NFL team...ever.
Denver would roll Bama by 40-50 EASY.
Bama may have 4 or 5 first rounders on their team. Denver probably has 4 or 5 on their defense, with some probably not seeing the field.
Monte Ball, one of the most efficient/prolific RB's in NCAA history, barely sees the Field in Denver.

Pro football back then was a completely different animal than today's NFL.SuperHornet wrote: The article did get something wrong. but in any case, such a comparison is rather pointless.

It's already happened, clenz. Look back at the history of the now-defunct College All-Star Game....clenz wrote:No CFB team would beat an NFL team...ever.

Are you prepared to declare the oddsmakers "stupid?"uofmman1122 wrote:Really?![]()

They put Denver up by 40.5...but Denver only gives up 28 to Jax. That only leaves Jax a two-TD swing. And without a decent QB, I don't think they even get THAT edge.
I'll give Denver a 24-34 pt advantage, strictly on the arm of one Peyton Manning. But not 40....

Alabama NOW has maybe 3-4 players that maybe could possibly be NFL starters, and that's on the most generous side I could think of.SuperHornet wrote:Are you prepared to declare the oddsmakers "stupid?"uofmman1122 wrote:Really?![]()

The average Jaguar player is better than the best 'Bama player.
I won't even give you coaching, since Saban proved he can't coach in the NFL. It's a totally different beast.
I'd bet the oddsmakers had Montana as 2 TD favorites last weekend over NAU, too. Doesn't mean they're right.
On the worst day for Jacksonville, 'Bama might keep it within 4 TDs. You're really fucking stupid or naive to believe otherwise.

Surprised this thread saw as much action as it did. I'm not surprised that clenz was a part of it.

Re: Broncos-Tide Odds
This I don't believe. Cyrus Kouandijo is a projected top-5 pick as a LT. The average Jaguar is probably somebody who shouldn't be a NFL starter. Depends on who the guy is. I can't think of any "average" Jaguars since they're all pretty average, IMO.uofmman1122 wrote:The average Jaguar player is better than the best 'Bama player.
Generally, I agree that Jax would whack the Tide....easily. And with or without Tebow.

Don't you dare talk down to the kneeling JESUS. He could single handedly beat a team comprised of Peyton Manning throwing to an offense comprised of Ditkas, and a defensive line of SUH's with Ditkas filling in elsewhere.rkwittem wrote:This I don't believe. The 0-16 Lions of a couple years ago would roll the Tide! This thread is more than idiotic.

What a stupid thread. Next you'll be suggesting that Tebow could beat any team is he played every position.
