So something that works for 85 percent of the people needs to be fucked with so the remaining 15 percent are covered?

Charleston has been ran by a democrat for almost 40 yrs. We're doing alright. :thumb:
You got Boeing to help. Same here with Seattle, but add in Microsoft and Amazon. Without those, we would be Portland.

I was explaining Cappy's argument . Our health care is WAY over-priced. Working people go into bankruptcy over it all the time. That's fucked.

Btw, what's wrong with Portland?

Nothing wrong with Portland, Maine, except that they closed the Moose Alley Saloon. :ohno:

I have a coworker from Portland who wants to move back, and she tells me the job market is really tight.

I know this does cause a large percentage of bankruptcies but I wonder how many it is that are already teetering and the medical bills put them over the edge? I also wonder how many of these same people have no savings because they have smart phones they don't need, premium cable channels, drive a Tahoe, and all the other stuff to keep up with the neighbors?

Agreed, but consider they're also keeping up with the neighbors who sell/service smart phones, premium cable channels, and Tahoe's.

Don't forget that many have NO CLUE what their health insurance benefits are as well. Many think having health insurance means they are 100% covered for everything.

I agree health coverage is too expensive, but robbing Peter to pay Paul with Obamacare is crazy considering only 1/3 of the uninsured really need coverage. The other 2/3 either choose not to have coverage because they are healthy and young, or they don't realize they are eligible for some sort of governmental coverage.

Who tells them that? Peers? Marketers?

We're conditioned to buy what they tell unless we have something slightly higher than a brain stem. And some of us do it anyway.

Not News: New Jersey Residents Seeing Their Health Insurance Plans Cancelled Because of Obamacare – News: 800,000 People Losing Their Coverage…

Via Star Ledger:

Hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans opened the mail last week to find their health insurance plan would no longer exist in 2014 because it does not cover all the essential benefits required by the Affordable Care Act.

The news surprised some who were unaware that provisions in the new law known as “Obamacare” were forcing insurance companies to scrap some plans they had previously offered.
“The Affordable Care Act is driving many changes to products and pricing,” said Thomas Vincz, a spokesman for Horizon. “Horizon BCBSNJ is actively working to help our members find new insurance plans that meet their needs and budget.”

The changes will impact more than 800,000 people in New Jersey who purchase insurance on the individual and small-employer markets, according to Ward Sanders, president of the New Jersey Association of Health Plans.

Like it or not, Conks, the world has changed. Capitalism has failed a huge percentage of planet citizens. When that happens, government needs to step in. The Affordable Care Act is and will be a wonderful thing for all involved.

Capitalism needs regulation, intervention and government oversight. Imagine a world filled with Z's.

From a behind the scenes view of Obamacare, Capitalism is still alive. It's creating more jobs and higher healthcare cost to pay for these jobs, to keep from slowing down and reducing provider service. Try answering calls from upset healthcare workers for a year and see what you think. A majority of them bitched about Obamacare.

The part about providing affordable healthcare is good, it's the additional bureaucracy that was added to the program that has everyone in a huff.

4.43%? I have had many years in the past where that went up great than that.

News flash - health care costs have been out pacing (and driving inflation) for decades now.

For the most part, yes. Look at the last election - Democratic House candidates won millions more votes overall than Republicans, but the GOP won the house - why? Republican gerrymandering. There is some by Democrats, to be sure, but the GOP has taken it to new levels in states like PA, OH, NC, TX etc

This. A 4.43% jump is nothing. At one of our meetings, HR said healthcare costs have not been less than a 8% increase year over year for the past decade. Not sure how much impact Obamacare has had on our company as a whole, but it won't be good.

Cap'n have you signed up for this great health care?

How many in Minn have signed up?
Report: Only 5 Iowans Have Signed Up for Obamacare
The Weekly Standard ^ | 10/10/13 | Daniel Halper

A local Iowa affiliate reports that it could confirm only 5 people in that state have signed up for Obamacare:

The "system doesn't seem to be working for most who log-on," says the local reporter. "We tried multiple times on Wednesday to see how long it would take to set up an account to try to shop the rates from the plans. Each time we logged in, within 5 minutes, the system was down." "Also today, the insurance division office in Des Moines told us, 'We cannot say for sure if anyone has successfully signed up through the healthcare.gov website," says a reporter. "Tonight, one of the two exchange providers ... said a total of 5 Iowans have obtained insurance."

Wrong - Medicare has kept the costs DOWN.

It is rising due to greed, insurance companies, unneccesary procedures, and the uninsured with unpaid bills.
