I love college and high school hoops, but sorry Dal the NBA is just slightly more believable than professional wrestling. When the lead news stories of a sport focus mostly. on player to player to coach to owner relationships and cat fights, you're on the field product leaves something to be desired.
The NBA...it's like a soap opera for really tall actors.

If that is the case then high school and college hoops are summer stock for this version of the most popular soap opera and LeBron is the most popular "actor" in the country.College is on its way as well.I like watching the small schools and their incoming frosh and juco products.kalm wrote:I love college and high school hoops, but sorry Dal the NBA is just slightly more believable than professional wrestling. The NBA sucks. It's not a team game at that level. It's superstar driven, and refs are reluctant to make calls against the superstars. Two superstars and three mannequins can win an NBA title.
At least college is still a team game.

College basketball has lost my interest the last 15 years with the pros dipping into the talent pool. Would have been fun to see 3 years of Durant or Garnett in college. The only part of the NBA game I don't like is the Jordan rules or now Lebron rules, the special treatment of certain stars. It's a much better game to watch though. Skill level is so much better than college ball. The Pro wrestling comments usually come from people that are not fans of the NBA, but the same comment could be made towards the NFL. The NFL is getting closer and closer to arena ball with all the rules favoring the pass offense and taking away from the running backs and the power game.dal4018 wrote: If that is the case then high school and college hoops are summer stock for this version of the most popular soap opera and LeBron is the most popular "actor" in the country.College is on its way as well.I like watching the small schools and their incoming frosh and juco products.

Hey everyone who attains star status gets this Jordan,LeBron are no different.Magic Johnson got this in his playing days,Larry Bird but with Bird what shocked me was when he and the Celtics played vs Detroit in the '87 Eastern playoffs the refs allowed the Pistons to be very physical with him practically mugging him in some cases. He was very frustrated with the physical play.Gil if you had a chance to leave school early would you???Gil Dobie wrote:College basketball has lost my interest the last 15 years with the pros dipping into the talent pool. The NCAA needs to make the rules for eligibility extremely easy, and I think most pro sports would go with it.
The NCAA/MLB have it correct with allowing someone to turn pro after high school, but if they don't they have to stay in college/out of pro ball for 3 years.
The NBA needs to work with the NCAA to make this the rule for basketball as well. This one year rule is complete crap and is doing more to ruin the NBA/NCAA/amateur status than anything.
College basketball is inifiniatly better than the NBA because of the passion. Unlike the NBA, where it's 99.9% pampered prima-donnas that bitch and moan about everything and is 100% about money. The college game is 98% kids who will never see the floor in the NBA and is really just about the passion of the game.
I enjoy, and watch, the NBA. The NCAA is just better

Re: The NBA is coming!!!!
Nobody got this extreme favoritism until Jordan came along. Magic and Kareem used to get hammered by McHale, Kite and Parrish and the Lakers would come back with Landsberger and Kupchak. It was a more physical NBA back then. Clenz had a good point about the option between going pro out of high school or staying in college 3 years. That would improve college ball. Moses Malone had a great career out of high school, just as Timmy Duncan had a great College and Pro career. Each person has to make their own choice. I still like college ball, but not like I did 15 years ago and prior.dal4018 wrote:Hey everyone who attains star status gets this Jordan,LeBron are no different.Magic Johnson got this in his playing days,Larry Bird but with Bird what shocked me was when he and the Celtics played vs Detroit in the '87 Eastern playoffs the refs allowed the Pistons to be very physical with him practically mugging him in some cases. He was very frustrated with the physical play.Gil if you had a chance to leave school early would you???

You forgot Farragut Academy(Garnett) but there were plenty of high school guys that didn't make it.James,Garnett has the grades to go D1 and I'am quite sure Bryant did as well.Kwame Brown remember him he was taken by Jordan as the first player from the high school ranks no.1 overall what has he done!!!!BlueHen86 wrote:Lower Merion High Schooldal4018 wrote:Hey college has its superstars where did you think the NBA stars come from??

Your saying Bird never got favoritism from the officials.I beg to differ the officials at Celtic home games I felt gave them preferential treatment and this is going back to the 70s.Gil Dobie wrote:Nobody got this extreme favoritism until Jordan came along. Now you are talking home court advantage as opposed to the treatment Jordan and Lebron get. Robert Parrish always had a little 3-step he did before shooting.dal4018 wrote: Your saying Bird never got favoritism from the officials.I beg to differ the officials at Celtic home games I felt gave them preferential treatment and this is going back to the 70s.

Re: The NBA is coming!!!!
Okay point taken there were times when Bird committed a foul on the road but was never called for it.Yes traveling is a definite problem if it was called everyone would be guilty of it including Jordan or LeBron. How about that infamous closeline from McHale on Rambis in the '85 NBA finals.I felt McHale should have kicked out of the game for that plus given a heavy fine!!!!Gil Dobie wrote:Now you are talking home court advantage as opposed to the treatment Jordan and Lebron get. That's all the basketball that the people in Washington state can follow, other than coming to Portland not to cheer but to protest the loss of their team to Oklahoma City. How long ago was that?kalm wrote:I love college and high school hoops, but sorry Dal the NBA is just slightly more believable than professional wrestling. Re: The NBA is coming!!!!
Some hype for the hometown team. The addition of Kelvin Martin will give the Wolves some outside shooting at the 2. He went 5-8 from 3 in an exhibition last night. Projected starting 5, Love, Rubio, Martin, Pekovic and Brewer should push for a playoff berth if healthy. Flip Saunders replacing David Kahn in the front office is a huge step up. They will actually have a basketball guy in the front office.

I expect them to make the playoffs !!! Brewer if he had improved ball handling could play the 2 if needed.Gil Dobie wrote:Some hype for the hometown team. There's no way you can compare the treatment Lebron gets to MJ. Sure MJ got calls but there's no way Lebron would have been in those series with the Knicks or Pistons.Gil Dobie wrote:Now you are talking home court advantage as opposed to the treatment Jordan and Lebron get. The lack of a true center roaming the lane to knock the crap, I mean to stop drives to the basket, hurts basketball in this generation.

How about allow goaltending, but have a two second rule for being in the paint for both sides. Basketball sucks.
