Money Pouring In For Sen. Burris

Well not really.

Burris’ campaign spokesman announced today the senator raised only $845 in the first quarter, and still holds more than $111,000 in debts defending himself against allegations of perjury. Burris’ nonexistent fundraising will make it extremely difficult for him to compete in a primary against much-better-funded opposition.

If he runs for election, Burris will be facing off in a primary against state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias (D), who raised more than $1.1 million in four weeks since forming an exploratory committee.

Meanwhile, Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) will be making a decision whether to run for the Senate by month’s end — and he raised nearly $700,000 over the last three months.

Really? Now that he's been a Senator does he get a pension and those fabulous bennies for the rest of his life?
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

two years in the senate doesn't qualify you for a full pension... and if they want, they can deny him what pension he would get...

btw... their benefits are good... but they aren't much better than you'd get as an upper-mid manager in a fortune 500 company... it's a big misconception.

They don't get free health care at Bethesda?

not really... no. they get a bunch of plans to choose from, and they are good... but basically POTUS, and the people in the line of succession IIRC get care at Bethesda.

You get a set of options for plans and an allowance for them... you can choose even better plans and pay the difference, just like everyone else... and getting families covered is just as big a pain in the ass for Congress as it is for us (I've witnessed this personally).

It's a good plan... it's not the panacea that critics would contend.
