NFL with serious egg on its face

Post by bluehenbillk »

Strike one: (note the theme here) - They get stuck with Carolina & Tampa Bay for the Thursday night, the announcers were quoted last night during the 4th quarter, "well for all 473 fans still left here in Tampa"...

Strike two: Green Bay @ Minnesota for the Sunday night game. The Vikes are a train wreck. The only person happy to see this game is the lovely Samantha Ponder since her hubby gets one more crack at the Vikes QB job.

Strike three: Monday Night is the Seahawks at the Rams. It's bad enough that Bradford is done for the year & the game will be ugly. But compound that with Game 5 of the World Series happening right down the street in a baseball crazed town. I suspect they'll drape the upper level of the Dome & put all the fans in the first 10-20 rows for camera angle sakes & make it look like people showed up. Heck, they'd be better off playing the game at noon & showing it tape delay that night on ESPN. Goddell can't be happy.

These all sounded like good ideas in June when they were scheduling. :coffee:

Don't see the big deal with the 473 comment. Floridians should be called out as the terrible, fair weather fans that they are. :coffee:

What do you think will happen for the Rams game? Drape the upper level & have people fill in the 1st 20 rows for TV sake?

The stinking Vikings cost me the pick 'em pool at work. Ugh!

I agree. It's still Vikings and Packers. Although I am still Ponder-ing about the selection of quarterback this weekend.

[Bleep] that [bleep].
I think that was the point, Andy. NFL Network has low ratings, probably because the quality is so bad. The NFL is banking that another network will do the games better.

IMO, that's probably for the best. If you start a network, you have to fill more space than just the games, and replays like NFLN does just doesn't cut it. Even an all-sports network like ESPN can fill a 24-hour schedule better than NFL can, even if it's just pro wrestling (as ESPN did at Noon Pacific time during the '80s).
