Navies ask: What do you do with a captured pirate?
The scrawny teenage pirate stormed the Maersk Alabama hoping for a share of a $3 million ransom. He was attacked by its sailors, stabbed in the hand and tied up, and later arrested by the U.S. Navy.
The wound probably saved the life of Abduhl Wal-i-Musi, who was taken aboard the USS Bainbridge for medical treatment before snipers killed his three comrades holding American skipper Richard Phillips hostage in a lifeboat.
Now Wal-i-Musi awaits a flight to the United States for trial — a rare instance of a piracy case advancing through the justice system.
In fact, most pirates plucked from the seas by warships of differenct countries are simply set free because of the many pitfalls along the path to prosecution.
"Prosecuting detained pirates — that is simply not our business," said Cmdr. Achim Winkler of a European Union flotilla that has nine warships and three maritime patrol planes guarding shipping lanes in the Gulf of Aden.

The proper disposition of pirates is a court-martial and execution by hanging from the starboard yardarm. That's what was done back in the 1700s, and it's appropriate for right now.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

All Pirates and Terrorists, Crooks, Murderers, Thiefs, Rapists, and Molesters should be shot dead. In my opinion, they lost thier "human rights" when they decided to take the lives of others.

So someone that robs a store, doesn't hurt anyone, but takes a few grand deserves to die?

Ok let me revise my statement, ahem..
If a thief who holds up a store with a gun, but doesnt hurt anyone, yes deserves to die because he was threatening someone elses life.

What about drunk drivers? Since they are threatening the lives of anyone on the road. Speeders as well.

And, who determines the threat, the method of execution, the determination of guilt, and carries out this death sentence? For someone railing against big government (and government not telling you how to live your life) you certainly want the government involved in taking the life of it's citizens? Sounds like a double standard there chief--I thought you didn't need/ trust the government?Wildcat Ryan wrote:dbackjon wrote:

Or, are you proposing, we all just get to carry out justice ourselves? I'm sure that would solve everything.

Do you really think I would be that heartless? No I dont think Speeders and Drunk drivers should be killed, they should just be severely punished for it, more than they are now. Only those who have intentions of hurting others should be killed.

I dont trust the National Government, but my state's government I do trust, because they arent out there to try to run and control my life. Americans are losing thier rights and most of them dont even know it, it wont be long till they take my guns away and it wont be long till they tell me just how much electricity I can use, or which doctors i can go see, or just how much money I can make, and what kind of car I can drive or whether or not I can fly a flag in my front yard, or whether or not I can say Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. If me saying Merry Christmas or saying the Pledge of Allegiance offends somebody, TUFF. This country got to the greatness it is now, because of Capitolism, and now on the wims of a nutcase, we are about to destroy all that and become the Socialist States of America. I still cant believe an American president released American CIA secrets to the world. And everybody just loves this guy.
Get rid of big Business, even though its big business who create jobs.
Tax Big Rig drivers just because thier vehicles let out more emissions, which leads to higher prices on goods, because the rig drivers have to pay for thier stuff somehow right?
Depend on foreign oil, when instead we should be drilling for our own, and becoming energy independant, instead of relying on other countries who hate us. Hey there is plenty of shale here in Utah lets dig it up, oh wait thats right we cant, the national government and not to mention the evironMENTALists wont let us. Finding new energy sources is fine and dandy, but lets not abandon the only one that works in search for a new one until we succeed in getting a new energy source. Guess What? wind will not power my Dodge Diesel Truck.
Nationalise healthcare, where every doctor makes the same amount of money, and no more, which leads to less people wanting to become doctors. But hey lets do it, even though it has failed in France, England, and Canada.
Marriage was designed to be between man and woman, not woman and woman or man and man, if you cant make a baby naturally then its not NATURAL. (unless a man and woman get married but are unable to make a baby, only then is it right. Because its still man and woman.) ABORTIONS ARE WRONG AND UN-ETHICAL.
And they are terrorists, not mislead, not misunderstood poor people, they are terrorists, and everyone of them deserves to be hung.
And last I checked, this was supposed to be a government of the people, by the people and for the people, (not a bunch of power hungy politicians) with unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. With Government running the show, life will be your only right. America will no longer be known as the Land of Opportunity, but the land of you will make as much money as everyone else. With Obummers new tax plan he plans on taxing the rich and giving money to the poor, which only sends the message that you dont have to work, because someone elses money will be taking care of you.
Yeah, what a great Country this will be

Just keep in mind that a guy who holds up a convenience store to get groceries for a starving family is NOT in the same caliber as a freaking terrorist or pirate. Sure he could have used a different means, but perhaps that means was all he had.
And what about the guy who fools a teller with a water pistol? You going to execute him, too?
I think a quote from Bob Uecker (sp?) would be a propos here:
"Juuuusssstttt a bit outside!"

Why would you and thekidd pick on me and Wildcat Ryan with the false accusation that we are only talking to ourselves? We were not the only respondents in the conversation.
Of the ten respondents (not including yourself) to this thread, five of us recommended execution of the pirates. No one offered alternative suggestions.
Two respondents objected to our recommendation but offered no alternatives of their own. Two respondents replied with personal attacks, one of which might offer some future humorous entertainment value, and one respondent just laughed at us all. Perhaps the jovial one is the most sane of us all...
You are the moderator. Is this your idea of doing a good job? Do you care about doing a good job?

Re: Navies ask: What do you do with a captured pirate?
If you think the recent pirate escapade will embolden our allies and intimidate our enemies, portending success, think again. It will embolden our enemies. Oh, it will probably intimidate some of the illiterate and impoverished pirates, but it did not fool the world's intelligence agencies.
You probably believe what you were told by the mainstream media about the pirate episode, that Obama saved the day by ordering the timely use of deadly force to save the hostage Captain's life. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The hostage was saved despite the President's decision to suppress a readily available military option and use the FBI to negotiate a "peaceful" solution. It took the SEALS four hours to depart from Virgina Beach for the coast of Somalia. At twelve hours the FBI were still packing their bags. Meanwhile the hostage's life was in constant danger as the drama dragged on. The military solution was available on the first day when the hostage jumped overboard and tried to escape, but the rescue was explicitly vetoed by the Whitehouse. After the drama dragged on for four days, the hostage was finally saved ONLY because the Captain of the USS Bainbridge, contrary to the expressed desires of the Whitehouse for a "peaceful" solution, had the balls to risk his career and declare that the hostage's life was in danger, then giving the go-ahead as the on-scene-commander for the SEALS to take out the pirates and set the hostage free.
The President did do one intelligent thing for which I give him credit. AFTER THE FACT, he accepted as his own the decision to use force.
Unlike Jack Kennedy, who was tested early in his Presidency with an unprecedentedly grave world crisis and found largely worthy, Obama has been tested early in his Presidency with a trivial incident and found wanting.
