Most teams have been double or triple covering him, and look what good that's done them.
Likewise with Kupp, so I don't know how AZ thinks getting your best CB back will help. Kupp was double teamed against MSU, but still put up 110 and a touch, while giving Shaq Hill the space to burn fools for 172 and 3 TDs.

I stand corrected, those first two drives we ran it twice then passed. My point still stands. Montana did a fine job getting back in the game and Beau acknowledges he took his foot off the pedal.

Take off the maroon colored glasses and quit digging. You fought valiantly but lost to a better team that day. Score could have worse. :coffee:
Listen: you said they went conservative and ran the ball 3 straight times. Incorrect. You said what passes they did attempt were "dink and dunk" types. Incorrect. You said they went to "ball control" as VA "watched the clock"...incorrect. In fact, he did that exactly ONCE. Hell, on one of their punts there was still 12 seconds left on the play clock. "Taking his foot off the pedal" is a nice euphamism for "the figured some things out and we weren't as successful as we were in the first 3 quarters". I would LOVE another shot at EWU in the playoffs.

I am now going to take the position that Mick "took his foot off the gas" from 3:29 in the 2nd to the end of the 3rd quarter. That's the ONLY possible explanation as to how EWU could score 21 unanswered points. Amirite? :kisswink:
Of for fucks sake..you're so full of shit on half this stuff. Run along and watch the replay again and report back to me on the average length targets in the 4th quarter. Then count how many times VA's head swiveled to the clock behind him as the sun was still hitting the one in the Nez. I'm really sorry this is bothering you so much.

Like I said, do you think putting more than one guy on Henderson would make that much difference? We start throwing to him earlier in that game and who knows how it turns out. :coffee:
Doubling up Henderson would have more of a difference than doubling up Kupp, because UM doesn't have as many threats offensively as EWU.

True, but if we can get Walcott and Van healthy we'll EWU a run for their money as the most potent offense in the conference.

Don't go full retard on us, SE. How can getting our best CB back NOT help....I mean, think about that statement for just 10 seconds before you post ridiculous shit like that. With our top corner out, our #2 corner now becomes a starter...our nickel back is now our 4th best corner.

Yeah. No impact whatsoever, I'm sure.

Interesting analysis, given that EWU mustered all of 75 more yards and 5 more points than Montana. :dunce:

Can't wait for the rematch.

I never said it wouldn't help any, just that it wouldn't help much. MSU has a better secondary than the Griz, and they couldn't stop Kupp with their #1 guy (Flowers) getting help on him. Not to mention, it just opens it up for our other WRs like Shaq Hill, Ashton Clark, Cory Mitchell, etc. No matter if Goodwin plays or not, the Griz don't have enough guys to counter how deep our WR corps is. If it's not Kupp torching you, it will be Shaq or Clark or Mitchell or someone else.

Oh that's right... I forgot you weren't there in person so the TV probably didn't show VA watching the clock constantly.

We went conservative on both sides of the ball. One due to being down to two redshirt freshman including a walk on at safety and the other due to Baldwin admittedly trying to clock a 25 point 4th quarter lead and getting away from what had worked.

Meanwhile, the Griz did a great job of getting back in it.

I would be honestly disappointed if you were to admit you're wrong. All we can hope for is a playoff rematch. BTW, a couple of our starting DB's who were out for much of that game are getting healthy again.

If we do meet, I've got 100 skittles that say the score won't be as close.

MSU has a better secondary? Are you measuring that by yards? By height? Because I have a couple different measures....# of times EWU was forced to punt. # of points given up...you know, things that actually matter.

Fine, then I'll add in our starting tailback, starting corner dismissed from the team, etc., etc., etc. Were those four safeties gone for just the Griz game or have you played multiple games without them?

I'm confused - are you seriously banking on one good quarter of play for the reason we get beat in a potential re-match?

I should have said 3 safeties, as McDonald broke his ankle a week later against ISU. Tonani was lost for the year early on, but Brown and Raynes were lost in the Montana game. Like I have mentioned before, we had a true Freshman walk-on playing Safety at the end of the UM game getting his first PT of the entire season. Of course he is going to get beat some against guys like Jones and Henderson for UM. We are essentially talking about a scout team player. Against MSU, we had 2 cornerbacks playing Safety. Add in a starting LT (Deboord) and a starting RT (Rodgers) that didn't play much, if at all against UM. We also lost a starting DT on the second defensive play of that game and have had plenty of other injuries throughout the course of the season at multiple positions. At the end of the day it's part of the game and it boils down to what kind of quality depth you have. But you already know that. Would you fare better against EWU with a healthier secondary? Perhaps, but recognize we've had plenty of guys out, and they'd definitely help us out, too if we ended up playing again.

Against EWU, it sure was. So was the Griz D. So were a lot of our opponents' defenses when they played us. Hmmmmm.....

Here's a newsflash for you. There was one quarter of good play where you scored 21 straight. Followed by one quarter of good play where WE scored 20 straight. Other than that it was a 21-17 game. Sounds like a pretty close game...surely you can follow that, can't you?

I believe the O-Line guys were basically back for the MSU game. Or at least they played some. It sounds like Raynes (S) could be back for Cal Poly, Brown (S) hopefully back for the playoffs. McDonald (S) had surgery this past week so I don't think we'll see him again this season, which really hurts.

Good news is we had a guy who was a grad student last season just get his petition approved by the NCAA for another season of eligibility due to some strange circumstances and really only playing 2 years of football. He played some at Safety last year. Who knows if he's been keeping in shape, though. All in all, it looks like we may be a little better off in that position than we were against UM and MSU. At least we won't have to play 2 CB's at Safety against Cal Poly, anyway.
