and didn't find anything

Dam Cup isn't really that out of place as a name. Considering they are the major mainmade structures that dot the landscape between Cheney and Portland, it makes some sense. I make that drive a lot, and 4 of the biggest hydroelectric producing dams in the United States are along the route (Bonneville, John Day, McNary, and Ice Harbor).

Question for Montana patrons of this thread:

I've made the I-90 drive through Montana a few times, and somewhere between Bozeman and Missoula you can take an exit off the freeway and it leads around a loop to a small town. All of this is pretty ordinary, except that outside this small town a few miles-- quite literally in the middle of nowhere--- is a massive, giant, skyscraper of a smokestack. There is nothing around the smokestack, but the damn thing towers above a hill and you can see it for miles and miles. I have no idea what it is or why it's there, but locals must know because the Goddamn thing must be the tallest thing in the state of Montana by a country mile. I have no idea how tall it might be because there is nothing around it to compare to, but my guess is that it is in the neighborhood of 70 stories tall... I can't imagine any building in Portland being taller.

Is that thing still there? What the hell is it? And why is it in the middle of nowhere? I tried to do a google search for it one time a while back and couldn't find anything on it, but I have no idea what it's called or where exactly I saw it.

The town is Anaconda and I believe it is part of the Pintlar loop. Someone please correct me and add to the reply.

It is what is left of the Anaconda copper smelting plant built by Marcus Daly, one of the three Butte copper kings. Jack Nicklaus was going to build a golf course there. I don't know if he actually did. The "hill" you refer to is the slag from the plant. Try googling Anaconda or Butte or Marcus Daly.

This, and Jack did. It's called the Old Works and was the first ever EPA Superfund site usable by the public. The loop is old highway ten and IIRC was the original before I90 went in. It starts in Drummond, goes past Phillipsburg and eventually over a small pass at Georgetown Lake. There's a great ski little area at Georgetown called Discovery Basin. The Skalkaho pass (IIRC) also takes off from that highway over high cattle country back to Hamilton. The Pintlar Wlderness lies to the South.

Absolutely fantastic country.

One thing I've only seen at Oldworks are three practice holes you can play before you tee off.
A par 4 going away, a par 3 across and a par 4 back to the club house.

Since we are now talking about golf, I have a TRUE story to share...

I just bought a brand new Callaway, Razr Hawk driver for $25! It'll be the perfect match for my Callaway Wide Sole Fusion irons very nicely!

The above is a true story. :coffee:

Sweet Jesus...

kalm, your unselfishness, willingness to put others first, and do something like this makes me feel so very small, and insignificant!

You are a bright, and shining light for the EWU fan base!

I thank you for your effort! :kisswink:

Going to be a long game with these two clowns broadcasting it. Seems like they have never heard of Portland State, only referring to the Viking players by their jersey numbers. Sheesh!!!

Is he known for cheap plays? On that punt just now, our returner Ashton Clark let it roll as he backed away from it, then when the ball nearly stopped a PSU player tried to shove Clark into the ball so PSU could jump on it. Cheap fuck. :ohno:

Or we could do the smart thing that most high school players know how to do and just get away from it. Why give the officials an opportunity to make a bad call?
