no, you only have to fill 6. Sure, occasionally there are seasons when you have the opportunity to play 12 games, and thus 7 non-confs, but it isn't a requirement.Sly Fox wrote:We have to fill in 7 non-conference games every season. Seven!

UNI had a chance but a 3-5 conference record probably kept them out. It sucks for the MV but teams can only blame themselves....win the games you are suppose to.
With Northern Iowa, it is not the "conference record" which hurt them. It was FIVE losses. To paraphrase Clenz, If UNI substituted just one of their five losses with another win they would probably be in.
Why would beating southern Illinois instead of throttling a big 12 or seeded msu make UNI more playoff worthy

He meant if you had four losses instead of five.clenz wrote:which is dumb as hellGrizzlies1982 wrote:

Your situation wouldn't have changed anything.
Re: MVFC got robbed
Yeah, my bad, though Samford was. BUT, if Furman is, that makes the snub worse. That means the SoCon's auto-bid champion, Furman, went 1-2 vs the Big South, losing to our 1st and 4th place teams, and needing a late play for a 1 point win over our 5th place team. The Big South went 7-2 vs the SoCon this year I think.rationalgriz wrote:bucs, maybe you should bone up on the selection process. Furman and Lafayette were both AQ. If you want to complain about Liberty not making it, maybe you should compare them the the actual other at-large teams Just a thought
The SoCon shouldn't get 2 teams in over the Big South. Samford and Liberty are both 8-4. Liberty clearly played in the tougher conference this year, as the on field results show, Furman would've been 4th or 5th place in the Big South.
Liberty didn't play a SoCon team. So, if the SoCon went 7-2 vs the BSC, rather than 2-7, they would knock the conference strength. But, since it was the other way, they knock Liberty's schedule instead.
Doesn't make sense.

I'm with ya, I HATE D2 games. So useless, and very rarely do D2s compete with FCS. The gap between D2 to FCS is much larger than FCS to FBS. Plus D2 games don't count toward playoff eligibility, whereas in FBS one FCS game counts towards bowl eligibility.Sly Fox wrote:We have to fill in 7 non-conference games every season. Seven! Thankfully your Griz were willing to sign a home-and-home with us. Most won't. If we had our way we would never have any D2s on our schedule. But with only 5 conference games it sort of becomes our last resort. We also had two FBS games that we both led into the closing moments. We have no one to blame but ourselves for not closing things out at Kent, ODU or vs. Coastal. No one in America is more frustrated right now based on our 4th quarter performances in games we dominated for the most part.MrTitleist wrote:Maybe if Liberty wanted into the playoffs their AD should have scheduled them some tough football games. Two D2s, plus Morgan St and Monmouth.. so basically 4 cupcake wins and only beat two teams with a winning record.

Apparently D2, transitional, and non classified teams count more than D1 games against the PFL...MrTitleist wrote:I'm with ya, I HATE D2 games. So useless, and very rarely do D2s compete with FCS. they do offer more athletic-based scholarships than the PFL (except for maybe San Diego)clenz wrote:Apparently D2, transitional, and non classified teams count more than D1 games against the PFL...MrTitleist wrote:

Should probably aim that criticism at the MEAC or OVC conferences IMO. Saw YSU play twice and wouldn't say that is a good victory, not to mention a losing record in conference for UNI. Several close games, but as they say, only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades and nuclear warfare.DMoo531 wrote:Consistently rated the strongest conference, yet only the Jacks get a AL?
BSC gets 3 & SLC gets 2????
UNI with a win over Iowa St & Youngstown deserved a spot over SHSU & SUU

Exactly this. YSU was playing exactly like Montana State at the end of the season. Even if they lost close to SDSU at the end, they might've gotten in. But they didn't; they got rocked and displayed they weren't anywhere near a playoff caliber team when it most mattered.Grizzlies1982 wrote:Historically momentum has been a huge factor when the committee compares at-large prospects. UNI was 7-5. 7-5 teams don't get at-large bids… period.

But 6-4 teams do....and teams that need OT to beat North Alabama AND Georgia State do....Mvemjsunpx wrote: UNI was 7-5. 7-5 teams don't get at-large bids… period.
